I had a rather good workout this morning. all things considered (personal stress going on in my life).
I do a tear-down routine and for bench press its as follows. First I do a warm up set. Then pile on enough weight to where I can do only 5 reps, then tear down weight (no rest) to where I can do another 5 reps, then repeat (actually try and do as many reps as possible) for last set.
The best I've ever done was about 5 years ago at age 49, a BW of 215, and ~15% BF. My upper starting weight was 345 for 5 reps. This morning my starting weight was 315 and I got 5 "clean" reps., then 275 for 5 and finished with 225 for 7. The main difference is" 5 years older, BW is ~40 pounds less (177 lb), and BF is ~6.5% ! !
I feel that for a short term goal, I can get 325 for 5 at an even lower BF range by the end of summer. Not too bad for an ol' guy
