I think Bulgarian split squats are an underrated king of leg exercises.

Split squats and Bulgarian were always a miss for me because of balance.
But I get a similar feel from a seated one leg press machine
 
Bulgarians for me hit glute very hard not so much quads, glute is sore for a 3-4 days after and my ass is prety much big anyway soni skip it and eather do more hacks or leg press.

I can do Bulgarians, but I'd much rather do a single leg press where the set up is easier and I can load more weight.

Also do them in the smith machine if there programmed in. Can’t balance without it lol..

When I was recovering from a ruptured right meniscus, I found these I haven't stopped doing them since I have way more control over what muscle group is hit quads versus posterior
 
I haven’t done these in ages and decided to throw them back in as I no longer back squat due to disc problems. I only used a 12kg kettlebell for 3 sets of 12 per leg and I’ve got those classic can’t lower down to the toilet doms today. The fact you can get away with next to no weight as well is a god send for an old fart like me

50% of the time I do them I end up puking. They're brutal. And so good.

Super simple to shift the focus to quads by ensuring you get lots of knee bend.

Yup. Single leg press is a superior movement in many ways. Balance, variability, safety when pushing to get that last rep etc.

I do them in a smith machine and drop the bar to the bottom, yoga mat over the bar. Then I lightly touch the support and hold a DB in the opposite hand.

Works great imo. You can adjust the elevation of your non-working leg.

I think they are likely a top 3 leg exercise. More glute? Put the front leg forward more, shin angle perpendicular to the floor, and lean your torso forward. More quad? Move loaded foot backwards and torso more upright.
