something is odd about me.. i never feel satisfied.. im always wanting to do something new.. its weird i just pick up random things and learn all abou them and then i just get bored with it once i figure it out.. i can name 4 things that i have bought books on, researced extensively, and spent thousands of dollars on only to become bored with them 6 months later........ its doesnt make any sense..

i did notice i had a few childhood signs of ADHD, agression, bedwetting(no lauging!!hhehe), could keep focused, etc... however in my daily life i seem to do ok, but its just things like the above that make me wonder what im trying to accomplish.. why i feel the need to keep picking up hobbies to only become bored with...

i think i need to go talk to a doc and see whats going on in my head, but i know there are some smart folks on here that might be able to lend a hand or point me in the right direction...

Well I don't know if I'm one of the smart folks but I can give you a few things to consider here...

Whenever we try something or learn something new it provides a high degree of stimulation as well as a challenge. SOme people, once they've mastered something to a degree that is satisfying for THEM, they move on to the next thing. These individuals are usually the "jack-of-all-trades" types.

It has nothing to do with a lack of attention. Were that the case, then you would find yourself totally unable to focus on the subject as opposed to just unwilling.

Example: An artist with a whole sketchpad of unfinished artwork. Every time he gets to the point where he knows he can finish a piece exactly the way he wants it, the challenge and excitement is gone and so is the piece of art.

The only problem with this type of behavior is when it spills over into areas of your life where 'going the distance' or reaching fulfillment is a necessity (like a relationship, for instance). Once the challenge of getting the girl is gone, so is the excitement and what could have been possibly a good relationship is a wasted opportunity because you've lost interest. How many men reading this have worked away at a girl for a long time yet once she falls over with her legs in the air, she just doesn't seem that interesting anymore?

I recommend for the sake of those around you that you try some exercises by forcing yourself to finish something whether you want to or not. This begins to take your activities away from a self-centered perspective and places them in the eye and hands of those around you that might appreciate them.

So don't leave this thread open half-assed. Follow up and close it off.

Sound good?;) :D

man, OTH hit it on the head... i suffer from this, and so do many many MANY men across the world...

just force yourself to finish things like he is saying.. it will help you a great deal.. i would consider myself one of the jack-of-all-trades... i just started a sign and vinyl business a year ago, and im already digging into something new now!! you would think i would be satisfied with the things i have going on now, but NO, i need more..

Here's a good example. Let's say max says "screw this sign and vinyl business, it's just not fun anymore"

... yet all the while he may have clients who are depending on him.

Not that this is the case, but just using this example to further illustrate my point. HE FEELs better but the clients? Out in the cold.

exactly right OTH

making a very good strong point... if i was to do that, at this point, i would ave a TON of people hanging... waiting.. but, the thing i am entering into will basically work synergystically (sp?) with the signs... doing real estate.. so, i can make my own signs, and all, while still being able to do some signs here and there.. i seem to like being able to do many things, i would say that instead of me being ADD, i like to have my hands in different things at once.. its funner, and keeps the monotany down..

but great point.. if you were to quit doing something whilst people are still depending on you, you would leave them out in the cold.. relationships, jobs, whatever.. you have to fully finish and accomplish things...

thanks for the replies fella's..

fortunately i dont choose to do things that affect other people, besides my relationship with my GF... man what you speak of is SOOO TRUE.. i have had 4 or so long termin GF's but i always lose interest after a while.. it REALLY sucks.. i really really love the girl im with now, honetsly more than anyone, but still sometimes lose a little interest at times...

i guess i will just keep choosing things that will not affect others, thats the only thing i can think of doing...

Just remember to ask yourself:

Am I unable to focus? or....
Am I unwilling to focus?

If you're simply bored with something and no longer willing to exert the effort needed to keep up with it... that's not ADD in any way!

BUT if you find yourself consistently trying to accomplish things where your mind will not stay on task (you just can't concentrate) - that would be something you could look into with your doc.

Otherwise, I think you're perfectly healthy, lazy bastards!!! :D

Im the same EXACT way!! I think about this every day all day of my life. i am ALWAYS BORED SOONER OR LATER!! like no matter how exciting it is at first, its only a matter of time before i get bored with it. sounds similar huh? (i also had the bedwetting). I didnt know there was any help for this, lol. I just thought it was a fault i had and I just try to deal with it.

that is me. once ive mastered something to a degree satisfying for me, i get bored and move on to harder and harder things. i termed myself "obsessive". BUT I MAKE SURE I MASTER IT THOUGH!! ITS LIKE AN INSTINCT, something thats just gotta be done no matter what.

i also change my mind about things like crazy. it could be occupations or anything, really. it kinda sux but oh well.

but i think that is some damn good advice. follow up is key.
