Iron Sport Gym is having its 2009 Strength Fest to celebrate the gym's 10 anniversary!

It's also a benefit to support the Philadelphia Police Survivors' Fund!

Iron Sport is located in Glenolden, a suburb of Philadelphia about 15 minutes from center city. I'm going to be creating a video montage of the event which will include several strongman (and strongwoman!) competitions. If you are in the area stop by and introduce yourself. I'd love to meet you in person and maybe you can get in the video!!

Mike are any of you guys competing at the NPC LehighVally contest May 16th? That's the show I'm training for now.

DAMN!!! too far away!!! I would absolutely LOVE to be there and to meet you Mike! Ah well one of these days...hopefully meet some of you guys at the O. this year

Today was the cutoff for entering the contest but if you put it off and still want to compete send me a PM and I'm sure I can get you in!

Mike, what state are you from?

I wish I waas in Philly. I could go for a good cheesesteak!!!

Ridley Park. You know where that is? It's near the Philly International Airport.

Yup. My buddy is from Chi-Chester, which I am pretty sure is right next to that, so I kinda know the area. I remember last year when that girl from Ridley Park was hit and killed crossing a major road around there, very sad. I am from Lower Merion, I was raised early on in Plymouth Whitemarsh

Strength Fest updates

2009 Strength Fest is just over a week away. Although entries into the contest have started off a little slow the last minute entries that are coming in strong.

Among other notable competitors is Ernie Beath from Eastern Shore MD. Ernie’s strength exploits have been getting well known through his YouTube videos and posting on various strength message boards. A while back Ernie suffered a horrible accident when his face was crushed in a bench pressing accident leaving him legally blind. Despite this setback he has kept on forging ahead and has built himself into a tank and we are really looking forward to seeing how he does in the overhead lift on May 3rd. Ernie will be lifting in the superheavyweight class.

Another competitor to watch is Jamie “Chaos and Pain” Lewis. His exploits at every gym he has ever trained in have made him legendary. At only 175lbs Jamie boasts lifts that most strongmen at over 300lbs would love to accomplish. You can follow his teachings and training philosophy by logging onto his blog http://chaosandpain.blogspot.com I must warn you though Jamie’s site is pretty raw and he pulls no punches with some so-called internet strength gurus.

Iron Sport’s resident pro strongman Kirk Nowack will be tearing it up that day as well. Kirk is fresh off of a 2nd place finish at a pro strongman show in Orlando last week and the day before Strength Fest he will be competing in an Olympic weightlifting meet. So to say Kirk is a ‘gamer’ is an understatement. Come and take a look at how a true pro does it.

Another special guest that will be making an appearance is a true legend. Slim The Hammer Man from Pottstown PA is the last of a dying breed, last of the old time performing strongmen. Slim has traveled the world for over 50 years displaying his own brand of hand and wrist strength. Slim has forged his steel cable like forearms swinging sledge hammer in the gravel pits his whole life has earned him the nickname of “the hammer man”. Even well into his seventies Slim still possesses a handshake like a vice so be on your toes when you meet him.
