i say trap bar deads because they hit everywhere. i have found low reps really hit my back and glute/ham area but high reps lighter weight really torch my quads
Today I pulled 415 for 12 singles. This was not "failure" as much as it was, "Okay, my form is breaking down, getting fatigued, let's not try to injure ourselves here".
Last May or so with this same weight I'd get 3 reps, then a 4th one wouldn't even leave the floor.
But I digress - cluster sets, yes. Probably resting maybe 10 seconds between each rep.
Yes cal, that's what I have discovered is helping my DL tremendously.
I pull the weight up, then let it fall back to the floor (hands attached to the bar). When the rep is done, I stand up, grab my sharpie and mark my arm Roman numeral style (when the reps get over like 8 I can't keep track), walk like 15 feet back, nod my head to the iPod I'm listening to, taking deep breaths, walk back up to the bar, set up and pull again.
I'm very excited right now, because last June I pulled 455 as a max PR, but by the time I get to using that weight for my clustered sets or whatever, I'll be pulling multiple reps. I don't expect to stall out before hitting 550, let's hope I don't stall out before hitting 600
I train 5/3/1 style, moving the weight up 10 lbs each month.
p.s. Cal - Your DL history had you pulling more than what I can do now. Do you have any ideas you can throw my way in terms of what has worked for your Deadlift?
Which of the big three (deadlift-squat-bench) would you REALLY want to make sure you are absolutely strong at, purely for all over size gains?
I favor the deadlift just because it's my strongest. In my ef'd up opinion strength in these = size. Squat second, but only by default cuz the bench isnt too much of a whole body type move.
I'm deff gona have to go with the bench. Always been my fave, I mean Your hitting chest,shoulders,bi's/tri's ect all in one set.
So for me, bench hands down.
I can't really say anything has helped my deadlift.
I've tried lockouts -totally useless
Good morning -no transfer
Speed singles-def the most useless thing. Being explosive with 50 percent doesn't transfer at all once going heavy
Dl off plate. Not much. ALMOST seems easier.
Going to try singles. And then follow up in same workout with dl singles off plate
