I posted this on Mayhem and curious to see the answers here...

If you were a Men's IFBB PRO judge

Who would you have picked to win the NY PRO?

Who would be Mr Olympia right now (2006)?

Who would you have picked to win the most recent ASC?

Would you be in favor of 2 classes?

Would you mark down a competitor because of a torn muscle, site injections, gyno and bloated belly?

1. Branch deserved to win IMO, i wouldve placed Wolf second though.
2. In 2006, Jay was better, so he won. No questions here.
3. No idea what you mean by ASC.
4. No
5. I would if it was apparent.

To answer the last question:
I would mark down for gyno, bloat, or ANYTHING that detracts for the overall aesthetics. Overuse of synthol, puffy nipples, and definitely an overbloated gut. Makes bodybuilders look fat and takes away from the taper.

For injection marks and scarring... i dont know if I'd mark down for that or not.

ASC = Arnold Classic

Under the guidlines of judgeing symmetry, you would have to mark down a guy that has obvious flaws. IE one lat noticeably smaller than the other, one bicep much different in shape and size to the other etc. Bloated bellies on stage are a big NONO! and gyno, well again if it was very noticable then yes. As for the use of syntherol, again if you know for a fact that the muscle is enhanced in thios way then you must penalize for it. Branch Warren is a true hardcore Bber, his condition at the NY pro was the best of the field. So he won. I would have loved to see the score cards for the symmetry round. I would have had wolf ahead at that point. Martinez for the ASC. Two divisions NO. The Olympia, well both men had great strengths and weaknesses. Ronnie was off. Jay was on. Did jay beat Ronnie by that big a margin, NO. Did jay desarve to win. Without being there live and by useing only photos to judge I say NO. But livr and in person is a whole different story.

HERE GOES!

I'D HAVE CHOSEN DENNIS WOLF FOR THE NEW YORK PRO AS WINNER.

BANCH WAS HARD AND GRAINY...BUT, HE'S ALL MESSED UP. I LIKE WOLFS LOOK MUCH BETTER. I LIKE DENNIS JAMES AS WELL...BUT HIS MIDSECTION DETRACTS GREATLY FROM HIS APPEARANCE.

JAY WOULD BE MR. OLYMPIA.

VICTOR MARTINEZ WOULD HAVE WON THE ARNOLD.

I'D MARK DOWN FOR BIG GUTS AND OTHER FUNKY STUFF THAT LOOKS CRAPPY.

I'D BE IN FAVOR OF TWO CLASSES. :)

Who would you have picked to win the NY PRO? - Dennis Wolf

Who would be Mr Olympia right now (2006)? - Melvin Anthony

Who would you have picked to win the most recent ASC? - Phil Heath

Would you be in favor of 2 classes? - Yes

Would you mark down a competitor because of a torn muscle, site injections, gyno and bloated belly? - Yes

Who would you have picked to win the NY PRO? DENNIS WOLF

Who would be Mr Olympia right now (2006)? RONNIE

Who would you have picked to win the most recent ASC? PHIL HEATH

Would you be in favor of 2 classes? ABSOLUTELY! FREAKS IN ONE CLASS, AESTHETICS/SYMMETRY IN THE OTHER

Would you mark down a competitor because of a torn muscle, site injections, gyno and bloated belly? BLOATED BELLIES DEFINITELY. TORN MUSCLES, CAN'T HELP. GYNO AND SITE INJECTIONS (ONLY IF OUT OF CONTROL).

Who would you have picked to win the NY PRO?
I think Dennis Wolf I would have as the winner. Branch at #2, and I kind of think Desmond Miller could have been moved into 3rd over Dennis James. I really liked Millers look a lot. I think him and Wolf are going to be doing major damage for years to come

Who would be Mr Olympia right now (2006)?
Victor Martinez

Who would you have picked to win the most recent ASC?
Dexter Jackson

Would you be in favor of 2 classes?
No, I think they should just go back to judging with more emphasis on symmetry and aesthetics.

Would you mark down a competitor because of a torn muscle, site injections, gyno and bloated belly?
Torn Muscle, not as much. I dont think I would penalize someone too harsh for injuring themselves, those things are unfortunate. But yes definitely mark down for site injections, gyno, and gut.

I have no damn idea! I've looked at bodybuilding physiques practically everyday for the past 16 years, and being a bodybuilding judge has to be one of the most difficult things to judge, especially today, unless you have a for sure clear winner like yates always was.

1) BRANCH WARREN
2) JAY CUTLER..
3) VICTOR MARTINEZ
4) ONLY IF IT IS HEIGHT CLASSES.. I THINK WEIGHT CLASSES WOULD NOT BE RIGHT.. MAYBE 5'7 AND UNDER AND LET THE GUYS COME IN AT WHATEVER WEIGHT THEY WANT.. IT IS MORE FAIR THAN MAKING GUYS 5'5 COMPARE TO THOSE 5'10.. BEST SHORT GUY.. BEST TALL GUY.. THE WEIGHT ISSUE LEAVES TOO MUCH LEEWAY.. PLUS.. THE 210 AND UNDER WILL TURN INTO A HEIGHT CLASS PERSUE ANYWAY..
5) TORN MUSCLE ? NO.. ACCIDENTS HAPPEN.. NO USE IN ENDING ONES CAREER OVER A TORN MUSCLE.. DISTENSION? DEPENDS ON THE SEVERITY.. GYNO? HELL YES.. GET THE SURGERY BEFORE YA SHOW UP LACTATING ON STAGE.. I WOULD HOPE EVERY COMPETITOR WOULD HAVE THAT COMMON SENSE ..

Who would you have picked to win the NY PRO?

Wolf

Who would be Mr Olympia right now (2006)?
Victor Martinez

Who would you have picked to win the most recent ASC?
Victor Martinez

Would you be in favor of 2 classes?
No

Would you mark down a competitor because of a torn muscle, site injections, gyno and bloated belly?

Yes

Would you mark down a competitor because of a torn muscle, site injections, gyno and bloated belly?

If gyno, bloated and synthol use is very apparent, Yes!
Torn muscle I guess in the symmetry round, you would have to take a little off.

1) Dennis Wolf and DJ second...
2) Jay Cutler... However, I thought Melvin brought a viable physique to the Olympia and was worthy of a top spot...

3) Dexter Jackson (the reason being is that I thought Dex was in better condition... Both have great physiques, but DJ just a little more shredded as always...

4) Absolutely, because if the judges are going to completely ignore the smaller guys then why the hell should they put their bodies through all of that to get screwed? Until the judges start looking at each physique objectively, and stop simply giving it to the big names in the sport, even when they clearly do not deserve it, then yes... I'm not a huge Lee Priest fan, but I can totally understand the beef he has with the way things have been going concerning the judging of shows...

5) Yes to all of them... The argument about a muscle tear being an unfortunate incident, and shouldn't be penalized is foolish... Thats like Michael Jordan severely spraining his ankle in practice the day before game 7 of the Finals, and the refs spotting the Bulls 30 points because we all know that if Jordan was 100% he would be good for at least 40 points... Jay Cutler knows this and has even said it in a couple of his vids... That guys like Ronnie are playing with fire by constantly attacking the big weights, and that it will eventually catch up with them... And guess what it did...

Clearly not much fans of the current judging policy

I would definitely pick branch as the winner of the NY Pro. He had the most mature muscle, best conditioning and was the most complete bber on stage. Wolf is great, but he needs a few years to bring up some weaknesses and he was not as conditioned.

Last year's Olympia was rightfully Jay Cutler. However, I don't think the field was too competitive. Granted it was deep and full of great competitors, but no one stood out to challenge Jay and Ronnie. I don't think his reign will be long lived unless he starts coming in 95-100% every olympia.

I would have picked Dexter to win. First of, we was the reigning champ and I don't think Victor had the conditioning to beat him. Victor is great, but was a bit too smooth. Dexter is ripped to the bone and has fantastic seperation, which many of today's bbers lack.

I don't think 2 classes are necessary. If a small guy is good enough, he could hang with the big guys. Phil Heath, Dexter etc. can hang with Coleman, Ruhl Cutler, etc. Also I think if you implement weight classes, shorter guys like Branch, Jay, Victor may have never gained the size they have because they would have wanted to stay in the smaller weight class.

I think a bber should be able to have control over their gut at all times. The judges should judge relaxed positions as well. If a bber has a distended or even a bloated gut, they should be marked down based on the severity of the gut. The same could be said of obvious synthol use and scarring, etc that comprimises the quality of the physique.

Who would you have picked to win the NY PRO? - Dennis Wolf

Who would be Mr Olympia right now (2006)? - Melvin Anthony

Who would you have picked to win the most recent ASC? - Phil Heath

Would you mark down a competitor because of a torn muscle, site injections, gyno and bloated belly? - Yes

Exactly the same for me.

Who would you have picked to win the NY PRO? Dennis Wolf. I'm a big Branch Warren fan, but Dennis Wolf, as my girlfriend put it, has a beautiful body, that coupled with the fact that he's enormous with an itty-bitty waist, well.... If he can bring up his back and calves I think he's Olympia material.

Who would be Mr Olympia right now (2006)? Jay Cutler. At least Jay can still hold in his gut when he needs to.

Who would you have picked to win the most recent ASC? Dexter Jackson, quite possibly the most aesthetically pleasing body right now. Vic always appears smooth to me in every competition, at least from the pictures.

Would you be in favor of 2 classes? I'd have to think about that one.

Would you mark down a competitor because of a torn muscle, site injections, gyno and bloated belly? I'd mark down for all of them, this is bodybuilding. Do these things detract from your physique? Yes, most assuredly. It's no different from having a weak bodypart, you have to be deducted. This is pro bodybuilding, not the special olympics where everyone is a winnar!
