Ladies n' Gents,

I figured you guys might enjoy some of this: The IFBB Pro Q and A with Dave Henry, Dennis James and Rusty Jeffers I hosted a couple weeks ago (See below).

Here's the link, split over 11 videos and organized into a youtube playlist I've embedded onto my site (you can jump from one segment to another easily).

**broken link removed**

"Recorded 2/6/10 in conjunction with the NPC Desert Muscle Classic. Hosted by Scott Stevenson, PhD. Home

Make sure to stop by these IFBB Professional Bodybuilders' websites for videos, pictures, other products, services and updates:

Dave the Giant Killer Henry: DH - IFBB PRO DAVID HENRY

Dennis the Menace James: **broken link removed**

Rusty Jeffers, Local Legend in Arizona and Posing Expert: http://www.rustyjeffers.net/ "

I've always liked Rusty Jeffers' posing routines.

Thanks Scott!

How many people were there to take advantage of this great oppurtunity?

Were those your dogs barking in the background mid-way through the first video ;) jking

Terry,

Yeah, Rusty's a great poser. He was supposed to put on a posing seminar, but no one showed / wanted to learn...

Halflife, there were about 30 people there - not too bad for a 1st effort. I need to do the next one in the auditorium where the show is held, rather than the host hotel.

LOL - no those weren't my dogs. Actually, I had a food drive that day (and gave away the extra food to a local soup kitchen) and had the local no-kill animal shelter there with an adoption center set up, too (a couple dogs and several cats). Just trying to do some good and mix together a couple of my passions (dogs and bb'ing).

.... Thanks for posting this, once I jacked up the volume it was great.
I wish more of these q&a and seminars made it onto the web. Most of us never make it to major show.

I enjoyed watching those question and answer sessions!

The differences in personalities were also really apparent. I get the feeling Dennis James would be a lot more fun if he was alone on more of a personal basis, because the guy is definitely an introvert. Dave and Rusty are naturally more outgoing. Lot of great information there.

DAVE HENRY TAKES A LOT OF FLAK FOR BEING "NON FRIENDLY" ON SOME BOARDS.. sorry, i dont see it.. i have talked to him by e mail a few times years back and was always friendly and responded..

You're welcome. This actually wasn't a big show - just a local NPC show (put on by the same folks who did the PHX Pro this year).

Dennis is pretty cool, IMO. Part of what you might have been sensing what that his wife was feeling kind of ill (which I found out later) and he might have been distracted.

Dave's actually kind of a naturally shy guy. I've seen first hand how he can get flooded by fans and it can be overwhelming (at least it could be for me). Literally, everywhere he goes, folks either are recognizing him or just giving him the "Man, you're a big boy - what do you bench" type of thing.

The other day at Costco the woman serving up the beanie weenies just decided it was OK to run her hands up under Dave's shirt on his back (as he was bent over getting something out of a freezer) to she could, "Make sure it was real." (Can you imagine if Dave had done that to her?... LOL Can you say, "Cuff him n' Stuff him?..." )

That was an interesting video. Some of the things were common sense that the audience asked, but it would be cool to see a more in depth view of some of those topics and behind the scenes bodybuilding.

I have never seen something that was shot like that. Are there anymore types of these style of Q&A sessions? All 3 bodybuilders were cool cats. Even they said they get the "stigma" that we all get and the way they carried themselves was very professional. This was a free event if I'm not mistaken. All pros should be like that and show that people who lift for real are not arrogant assholes.

I dig these types of Q and A's, too - that's why I wanted to organize one.

I'm sure there are other videos like that floating around - I just haven't seen many, except the one's put on by BB'ing.com, MD, or Weider at the big shows. I put this on b/c the opportunity arose (an NPC show in my home town) and Dave helped form the initial bridge with DJ. I just approached Rusty b/c I'd talked to him at shows before here in AZ.

It was $15 to attend or $25 with an AYCE meal. (This was just to cover the cost of renting the room, the buffet, the marketing fliers, my time running around from gym to gym, etc. - I certainly didn't make any money in the short run.) I gave a talk on Carbing up and Drying out beforehand and Rusty was to give a posing seminar, but no one was interested, so that didn't go down.

The pro's very graciously donated their time to give back to the BB'ing community. I just covered accomodationns for DJ and Rusty. (Dave lives here in town.) I had hoped that more competitors would be there - this is why I held it in the host hotel, but there was not a single competitor who was doing the show *that* day at the Seminar. (Probably 2/3 of the audience had competed, I'd say.)

I considered charging to view it online, to make it fair to those who paid on that day, but also didn't want to make money off of DJ, Dave and Rusty, who donated their time charitably. So, since the attendees could ask their own questions (not just listen and watch), I thought that was worth the cost of the seminar for them and this justified not charging for simple non-interactive online viewing.

I'm going to try to do more of these in the future, if I can, but will more likely use the rented venue for the show (less cost and a captive audience). But, even then, I wonder about interest:

-I've gone to supplement stores where Pro's were doing appearances and been the only one there.

-Back in 2000, Vinnie Galanti Guest posed at the Mr. Atlanta contest and I (a competitor) was the only one who showed up for the Q and A, so he and I just shot the bull.

-Even at the PHX Pro, Shawn Ray and GenR8 organized a Q and A with Kris Murrell, Shawn Rhoden, Dave Henry and JAY CUTLER right there in the Venue right after pre-judging and only about 20 people showed up... and this one was for Free. I didn't see any other folks who looked like competitors there other than Dave's wife...

So, I'm not sure how keen the interest is, actually, but I think if I were to KEEP Doing them at the shows here, folks would come to get used to having these and plan for them / expect them and be more likely to attend.

I was there!

I know its a little late to be posting on this, but just saw this when I put a search in for "Tucson". I was there that day and had a great time. Everyone was super nice and the food was really good!(ate clean)Scotts presentation was very informative and I was very surprised he gave away so much info about the week before a contest! Scott really knows his beans! Had to leave a little early though.Wish I could have stayed and asked Rusty J for a few pointers! The guy is by far the best poser around today! Hopefully Scott does this again or something similar and brings back Rusty for a posing seminar. Anyhow Thanx Scott. I'd go again and I would tell everyone who is serious at Golds North to go too. Well worth it!

Hey Bud!

Glad you enjoyed it. Amazingly, no one stayed for Rusty's seminar, so he, Francy and I shot the bull for a while.

He's very approachable and routinely has a posing clinic up in PHX that you can get in on. Just check his webpage (linked above) and you can get a hold of him.
