Injury Advice - Weightlifters Shoulder

Been unable to do shoulder work and very limited chest work. Went to a specialist who diagnosed me with acute distal clavicular osteolysis , commonly known as 'weightlifters shoulder'.

The way the doctor explained it is that tiny fractures accur along the end of the clavicle,, however they do not heal properly and this is causing me pain.

The biggest problem is sleeping at night. I have to use a pain killer to make it through couple of hours of sleep. Additionally, my training of both shoulder and chest is suffering - though the doctor did say I could continue to train and advised me to avoid certain movements.

He gave me some NSAID's (or I could get an inection) but said that I would likely require surgery in which they cut down/off some bone in the shoulder.

He said I would be out of the gym for two months but would never have this problem again.

Has anyone else experienced this? Can you possibly offer helpful advice or share your experience.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

ET

Yes I have had small tears that constantly irritated my shoulder...Pain - soreness ..limited mobility

Went through the physical therapy...have to build up that Medical file.

Then had a very experienced doctor in his late 50s do the work.

My shoulder is 100% Of course after the surgery I used peptides injected directly into the shoulder to help it heal and increase HGH to help healing.

So though I can't say 100% that peptides helped...I'm saying 100% it helped..if you know what I mean.

Get the surgery done..but get it done with an experienced doctor..
That is MY OPINION.

Been 2 years almost 3 I think...no problems..Of course I no longer do some things because certain exercises IMO...put the shoulder at more risk then what its worth..And I don't want to revisit the Doc...

Did you have an MRI done before the gave this diagnosis? If not, get a second opinion. I'd be skeptical if anyone who said surgery and gave a prognosis that exact without seeing an MRI. Find someone with a lot of shoulder experience.
I've had open surgery on both shoulders (rotator cuff tears , labrum tear, AC joint impingement, bone spurs, chondral defect on the end of the humerus) Had a sports doc who had worked on several of the TN Titans with lots of shoulder experience. Long rehab, but good end result on both. Cortisone injects can help, but are not a long term solution if damage is done. By the way, expect to be out of the gym for more than 2 months if they have to do open surgery. 2 months MAYBE if they can scope it, and it will take a while to get back up to speed.. about a year each for mine, but they were really screwed. Hopefully, you'll be able to come back much faster.

Injuries are part of the game! :p

Diagnosis was via X-ray and the doctor numbed an area on my shoulder and had me do some resistance movements. This is a well respected orthopedic in the area, who specializes in shoulders. The surgical recommendation is via scope.

I will take your advice on getting a second opinion.

In the middle of a cycle and will work through till it is done before taking any surgical approach.

Thanks for the replies.

Listen to muscle n blood. Having experience myself, no one is going to the gym after a shoulder surgery in 2 months to start training again. :naughty:
I used one of Miami’s finest sports doctor who sees the Dolphins, the Heat, and the Marlins as clients. He performed my operation through a scope. It’s been awhile but I think I was in therapy for 12 or 14 weeks. And it took a year before I regained my full strength and mobility again.

normally MRI is part of the protocol - so is therapy - also cort shots

Insurance companies will do everything but the most expensive thing..which in this case is great -- because why go extreme when you can fix it less intrusively ?

But like everyone has stated..if they haven't I would def question them about why not and ask for it..

Diagnosing a shoulder problem I would think needs a MRI - because you could have Bursitis - tear - Calcific Tendonitis etc etc..but then again Im no doc.

Good luck..let us know the outcome.

hey Wonton - I'm not as bad off but have rotator cuff pain in the night and pain when i do delts - What peptides did u find helped? I just started up GH about 4 weeks ago.

Honestly the protocol I used back then was novice...had no clue what I was doing. Was 2 years ago and so much more information has become available.

IMO I would read Datbtrue thread and do a search within for Injury.

Is the post I made long ago -

But If I was going through that again..I would research and def come up with something alot better then what I did.

Probally would do 2 - 3 x's per day GHRP & GHRH - You will have to decide which ones you want to do..

IF you can't find what you need here.

You might want to ask Datbtrue for invite to his private forum..and explain to him the issue you have. Dat is a one of a kind . He has made me a better person, just reading all the things he put out..Really made me think again and use my brain.

I don't feel comfortable giving a protocol because I know my info is limited..but the information is either here or at dats place.

Also the surgery is nothing - there are always inherent risk of course but ..One minute the nurse said..your gonna feel drunk with this shot..The next time I woke up..The surgery was done.

Oh yea dont try to rush the recovery process - realize your limits try to go beyond them sometimes..let the healing process complete.

Wishing you the best

Take care "working through", especially when it comes to exercise selection. I was "working through" on incline bench with pretty light weight when my right one came unwound. Couldn't even shift gears in my truck after that..
You may also want to slam legs while your upper body heals.. good luck with that. I couldn't even hold myself down in a leg press or even extension machine. Tried to turn sideways in a Smith machine and squat with the weight on my good shoulder. Hurt my back (and the machine)

Everyone...Thank you for all the advice in this thread.

I am definitely going to another doc and getting a second opinion. I will ask about an MRI (if the doctor fails to suggest one).
