Does the use of exogenous insulin down regulate your insulin receptors to where you may have future issues with insulin resistance

I have competed for the past 7 years never really payed to much attention to my fasted blood glucose which now in a growth phase has fluctuation for 110-97 fasted am but between meals 4 hr measured around 95 -93
With 400+g carbs

I have toyed with insulin humalog mostly and had good results with it
recently in my upcoming growth phase I wanna manage my glucose a little closer my coach
Basically gave me two potions
lantus
Or micro dosing Reta

I’ve brought this up to a doctor and they said the worst thing u could do if your someone who is a bit insulin sensitive is add in a long acting insulin because it’ll down regulate your insulin receptors and in the future worsen your insulin resistance
But I’m not really a huge fan of taking Reta year around I feel like every is just trying to create reason to use Reta / glps along side every phase cut bulk health cycle ecd and I don’t wanna be that guy

It’s logical that using long-acting insulin, in a healthy person can worsen insulin sensitivity. On paper, your numbers may look better, because it lowers blood glucose, so HbA1c may improve. But at the same time, your tissues can become less and less sensitive to insulin, and you may end up needing more over time.

You’re not diabetic. You’re not someone who doesn’t produce insulin. That’s why when I see coaches prescribing Lantus just because their client has elevated blood glucose, using it as a “fix,” it honestly makes no sense to me.

Short-acting insulin like Humalog or Novorapid, used properly in specific windows, for example around training, is a completely different situation. It doesn’t disrupt things the same way and can actually help maintain insulin sensitivity and support pancreatic function at the right times.

Of course, we’re talking about small, structured doses within the training window. But long-acting insulin, in my opinion, is the worst possible solution in this scenario.

what is your GH dose? Because i really hope its higher for this situation.
I'm not a lantus pusher, but i use it. But i think context matters heavily here. I only put clients on lantus when they are doing something OUT OF THEIR capabilities ie GH dosage high. Thats basically it. Its a bandaiid for GH usage. But that means when someone is getting insulin resistance without GH (and this may be you) there are just tooo many other areas we can fix before adding in lantus. Move more, more walks, more cardio, more GDAs, move your carbs around your training window more. The reality is, 400g of carbs is NOT that much. You shouldnt be getting insulin resistant from that amount. So i would employ all these other tactics to offset whatever is causing this. Reta is another option, but again, i would do other things. Lantus and reta use for me is like some guy using 20iu and pounding 900g of carbs and already doing 6 days a week of cardio, etc.

I'm not reccomending but I've used novorapid almost every day for the last year atleast. I used it every training day during my prep, and in the last 20 weeks have used it every day with every meal.

I've come off it for just over 1 week and my hba1c is 21 and c peptide 0.8

That would not be the case if using a long acting. I wouldn't ever use a long acting insulin.

Lantus doesn’t magically cause long term insulin resistance. That’s mostly driven by staying too heavy, overfeeding for too long, poor conditioning, and chronically high insulin levels year round.

A basal insulin like Lantus keeps insulin elevated 24/7, so yes, it can blunt sensitivity over time if you run it constantly while gaining fat. But that effect is usually reversible once you clean things up.

Most of the issues I’ve seen weren’t from the drug itself. They were from guys pushing food hard, getting sloppy with body comp, and staying in that state too long.

Lantus isn’t the problem. Eating crap, getting fat, lazy and masking it with ANY insulin year round is where you run into crushing things.
