Insulin for Bodybuilders: Complete Guide By Skip Hill, Andrew Berry, and Scott McNally (Video)

Just don't know if I want to go through the hassle of checking my BG all the time. But it seems like that the smart way to do it.
Will it hurt to check that much? Only in your finger tips. But is in necessary? No.

The amount of diabetics who just take some insulin after eating based on “how they feel” without checking is astounding, and they are usually only in the ED/ICU for HYPERglycemia. Not saying this is how to do things, but reiterating insulin doesn’t need to be that scary.

What’s the process like first injecting it after eating?

I was commenting on Skip's discussion of eating, then checking BG 1 hour later, then again 2 hours after last meal, then again at 2.5 hours after last meal, and ensuring you're below 90 before you entertain having the next meal.

I know some people will do that, but I won't. I've got too much other things on my plate. I suppose for those who are shooting for a pro card, fine.

But I'm just looking to employ John Meadow's protocol with one insulin dose per day pre w/o.

My plan is to have a small pre w/o meal about 1 hour before training, 4-5 IUs humalog with 500mg L-Carnitine about 15 minutes before training, intra w/o drink with Karbolyn, peptopro and glutamine, post training cardio (LISS) immediately followed by post w/o shake containing whey protein and carbs, with next regular meal about 2-3 hours later. I don't think with this protocol all the BG monitoring makes any sense.

I hear quite a few of you using various brands of rice krispies type cereal as a clean carb source. Do any hear ever use the Rice Chex cereal in the same way? Seems like you could put it in a bowl or baggie and eat it by hand, which makes it easier to take on the go. Rice krispies that way I'd just make a total mess. LOL

Rice Chex is fine. It’s what AJ list on my plan, but I prefer One Degree so eat that instead.

man you are really overcomplicating things so much...? believe me no pro bodybuilder wonders about the superiority of rice creal over rice checks - after all it is 100% rice just a different shape lol

I was told that ziti pasta is more superior than angel hair due to the aerodynamics of the surface. Any truth to this? What about standard sized spaghetti noodles?

There's no reason to check blood sugar so consistently.

Everyone likes to say the 1990s era bodybuilders were so much better than the guys today. You know what they virtually never did? Check blood sugar. You think a guy like Makus Ruhl got to his size always making sure his BS was 90 before he eat? I guarantee he never checked BS once during his career.

Even today Matt Jansen tells his guys to not to check their BS multiple times a day. And I can tell you when I put on my most size I was never checking BS, I just went by the roughly 10g cabs to 1IU insulin rule.

I have just been ignoring the guys on here checking BG after meals or thinking that only pro bodybuilders do that.

Truth is when you are doing this at a high level you are fully in tune with your body. When your BG, BP, RHR are high you know it. You are checking simply to confirm what you already know and to see the extent it’s off.

I’m all about doing this responsibly so if guys want to check BG before and after every meal I am not going to oppose it, but it’s not necessary IMO once you know your body. I personally monitor mine weekly at different times or as warranted to ensure it’s what I believe it is.

Anything else and you might as well just wear a CGM. Lol

Do you use the One Degree organic sprouted brown rice cereal? Do you eat it at different times of the day other than pre and post-workout?

That’s the one. If I get to my last meal and can’t get the oat flour down then I use the cereal there as well. It’s my go to carb for when I need to get carbs in quick and easy.

Thanks so much for sharing all of that. Looks like a much healthier version of the regular Rice Chex or Rice Krispies. Do you eat it by itself, or do you mix it with any dairy products?

If I’m using it generally it’s mixed with whey iso, or I’ll pour vanilla whey iso over it and eat it. I don’t drink or use any milk in my plans.

I think checking is important in the initial stages when you're still getting used to everything, but after that you probably won't need to check as often. I'd still be curious about my morning glucose though
