Insulin for Bodybuilders: Complete Guide By Skip Hill, Andrew Berry, and Scott McNally (Video)

My point was that I assume you took issue with us saying that you can get lean AF using insulin. If I'm wrong (and I've been wrong many times before), I will stand corrected.

Skip
There was a method @concreteguy came up with where you use Lantus to get into ketosis and get shredded very quickly but we here generally don't promote the use of insulin when trying to get lean. Not saying you're wrong or it's not possible, it's just not a popular approach here.

Is this statement true? There are a few coaches on here who are absolutely massive and shredded year-round. They use insulin whether they’re cutting, prepping, or bulking—it doesn’t seem to matter. They also carb cycle. And since they get results, people seem to respect their methods. So saying “we generally don’t promote the use of insulin when trying to get lean” or acting like it’s not promoted here, seems a bit odd to me. I could be wrong.

I'm talking about all the average guys on here looking to compete - we get more in the second tier than the first tear. Just last week we had a guy in prep say he was adding insulin preworkout and he was probably close to 20% body fat. I know the guys you're talking about and that's why I phrased it as 'generally' and not an absolute.

I hear what you’re saying, but if the goal is to help the average guy here, wouldn’t it be better to promote what’s optimal rather than just what’s common? For example, if someone is cutting and most of their carbs are pre- and post-workout, wouldn’t it make sense to use insulin during that cut? I get where you’re coming from, but if the goal is to truly help people, the right information matters.

In 90% of my competitors I use insulin around training until the very end of preparation unless they don't need it at some point after training but in 90% of cases a few IU before training are used until the very end

Do you use it before cardio for fat-loss though with no carbs ?

Its not about using slin for dieting but using it before cardio without carbs for fat loss

Well its a part of the video sooo
Hmm… my options are to take advice from Skip and other professionals or listen to someone who constantly posts pictures of junk food like it’s an achievement. Tough call.

To be fair I wouldn’t use insulin pre cardio fasted either. Can you with enough panning… of course. Potentially risky IMO and not necessary.

When cutting I only use insulin on re-feed days. Can you use it more? Sure.

There are many ways to get to the same end result and really depends on the look you are trying to achieve.

Ive never offered you or anyone else my advice

I have sometimes done this for some people if they take L-carnitine on an empty stomach, 1-2iu humalog before cardio on an empty stomach, but now I prefer to simply add a scoop of EAA to achieve the same effect.

This makes sense, and I’d bet additional leucine would help spike insulin even more.

This reminds me a bit of the method I recall viz mentioning he used with James hollingshead where they used slin before every meal to bring down BG.

Phil's obsession with lowering blood sugar and measuring it 100 times a day is not something I would imitate lol

Not something I would either, but I see the connection.

I wouldn’t really recommend imiting much of anything that Phil does personally

For someone like me who is just returning to the boards after years of being away, discussions like these are heaven. We may not all agree, but there seems to be a mutual respect here (as there should be) that there can be different methods that aren't necessarily right or wrong, but that we just might prefer one over another.
