It Hasn't been a fun six months

When it comes to choosing a mask for CPAP adminitration one size does not really fit all and some people require different approaches such as nasal mask instead of face mask. Most providers only stock Small Med and Large face masks with maybe an Xtra small or Xtra large. In 80% of the people this approach works although clearly a fair amount of people have to get used to getting hit in the face with alot of pressure. They can make adjustments of flow such as ramping it up more slowly but a percentage of people may not tolerate the face mask.

There are other options.

CPAP Masks at CPAP-Supply.com

In some hospitals they treat almost ninety percant of even the most acute cases with a full face mask, sometimes called a moon mask or bubble mask. Some people like it so much better than the face mask they were using at home they ask the doctor for it when thewy get home. Unfortunately for about 10 years it was only approved for hospital use. That appears to have changed and it looks available to the public above. If you are having tolerance problems and therefore not using the machine, talk to your doctor about other options. It may cause them to jump through a couple hoops but better that than you not using the therapy.

Iron, Great hearing that you have some direction and help with your sleep issues.. Glad you are feeling better and hope things get better each day..

Tks for sharing this info... I too wake up all nite long and normally drag-ass during the day. I will look more into this after reading yours and others post!

Thanks for posting Raskan...I have a soft gel "nose" mask...that is very comfortable. I don't know if I could do a bubble/face mask...but hell if this didn't work, I would keep looking for options that would, just to get solid sleep!

Thanks bro!

Well...last night was the first night, my wifey poo didn't have to nudge me, move me, leave the bed etc. because of snoring, lack of breathing etc. She said I was silent, and the she couldn't hear anything...she is/was amazed.

So we were both able to get some solid sleep...this CPAP may have saved my marriage!

It took a little bit to get used to...but I'm feeling REFRESHED this a.m.!! wow...now I'll have to see how I go for the remainder of the day. I'm not concerned if I have to take a nap later, I just know I have clairity of thought this a.m.for the first time in a long time.

I really didn't need any coffee per se, outside of the fact I always have at least 3 cups by now, just to help me wake up. Right now, I'm still on my first cup.

Gonna go get a workout in, and run to the mall with the family...

Placebo? Maybe...don't care! :D

Good that you are feeling refreshed this morning enjoy your day out with the family.

Man I hope everything turns out well, I fall asleep in class I'm pretty sure I don't need a study for that, feel better brother.

Bro, how much does the CPAP cost? Glad to hear that it's working for you and hopefully it be like that on the long run. Keep us posted brother!
Are you breathing like Darth Vader? Bro my young padawan, use the force! :D Soon you will learn to use the light sabre!!! :D:love:

HAHAHA! Light sabers kick ass!

My insurance is picking up the bill...but if it wasn't, it would be 400.00 for the first month, which covers all the equipment, and 100.00 per month afterwards. After 13 months they buy it for me.

I might just check online for the actual cost of the unit...and can set it up if someone needs help.

cant wait to get mine, nothing like a good knight sleep. refreshed, clear headed, not sore

Standard CPAPs cost about $500-600 online. Shop for price. I have a Resmed S8 Compact that can be had for that price; maybe lower if bought used off EBay or something. Additionally, as a backup, I have an auto CPAP by Respironics "M" Series. This costs over a grand, but the Resmed suits me fine.

I also use the Respironics Nasal Swift II nasal pillows (looks like a tube that goes under your nose). Fantastic! Much better than a facial mask that comes standard with a CPAP.

Don't hesitate to get this stuff, bro. I know it can cost some change, including the out of pocket costs for a sleep study, seeing a specialist, etc., but go for it. You'll NEVER look back. It's like taking Tren for the first time, but on a sleep-type level, to put it into BBer perspective.

It is the SHIT! :)

After that, once you stack up some paper, get yourself a Restava memory foam bed (Tempurpedic knock off but just as good) and you will eagerly look forward to your nightly slumber. It's a great investment esp considering how much of our lives are spent sleeping.

Another benefit of a CPAP: It lowers hematocrit.

Good Luck,
Plump
