Many people here might not be aware that they are sleeping on toxic poisons that can leach out onto the skin and possibly go airborne and into the lungs. It wasn't until I had a recent bought with memory issues and skin so itchy it would wake me up at night that I started looking into what's in my mattress.
My mattress is a Simmons beauty rest, and although Simmons will NOT tell anyone what chemicals they use, it is standard practice that in order to meet the United States regulations Boric acid and either Arsenic and/or Antimony is used.
These are incorporated into different fabrics or fibers that go into the bed, and a government agency, cpsc, found that a level MCG per cm2 leaches out onto the skin every night.
Now, even though these toxins are leaching out onto the skin, and possibly going into our lungs, the good-ole-boys who make our laws don't think it's an issue. Even when the Simmons' plant workers began to get sick a few years ago, after the new, stricter fire retardant laws went into place, they(GOV people) still said everything was GTG and at "Safe" levels.
Bottom line is skin exposure to antimony/arsenic can be from .3mg/day on up, and boric acid even greater. As with most things there are two camps in this. One says "everything is healthy and safe, don't worry" and the other camp thinks we shouldn't be sleeping on roach killer and toxic metals.
