I have to respectfully disagree with you. Knee stress is much more likely to be caused by vertical shin angle and muscular imbalances, not box squatting. You can have horrible form with or without a box. If you free squat or box squat for long enough with muscular imbalances and less than optimal vertical shin angle you will be in for knee problems, the box doesn't matter is what I'm getting at. I see people butchering squats in every form so frequently, it seriously amazes me.
