If your insurance covers it, might as well. If not - they don't really do much for you besides the peace of mind that comes with having a medical expert take a look at it (which I am not). I have had a similar injury. A second degree sprain. Had blood all the way to my toes. I couldn't work on it though and it took awhile to heal.
It looks fine the bruising would be much more extensive with any significant fracture in that particular area (large bones). Try swimming or rowing for a few weeks and let it get healed up.
Sorry, to answer your question more directly, do not get it "checked out" they will tell you to take some Ibuprofen and stay off of it for awhile. Waste of $$
I'd do deep Epsom salt baths with water as hot as you can stand it every night. They also make Epsom lotion at cvs that I like and could he used while you work along with aspercreme w 4% lidocaine. For some info about straight lidocaine drop me a PM, I have some info that may be helpful.
Also drink a gallon of water a day, for real. Jug is 89c at Walmart so grab a cpl and just refill.
Finally, aleeve liquid gels!* Work like a champ. (So does tb500, ha).
