Jay Cutler got his protein almost entirely from shakes? (Podcast w/ Roman Fritz)

I cannot even fathom eating that amount of food in a singular meal, especially from rice.
years and years of training your stomach and gut/digestion, i think thats where alot of people go wrong, they go from "normal dieting" to just slammin down food so their stomach digestion gets way overloaded to fast. When i was workin with John we did small incriments week by week and alwys asked, how is your digestion, do you feel sluggish or bloated etc.

Hard to believe a guy who sold Fake HGH…have to be a real piece of shit to do that to a fellow bodybuilder.
Up there with Titus.

Well, minus the murdering bit...

Most people want to eat "food" at some point.
But for the person who doesn't want to eat 3-4 actuals meals- then it would be sustainable
That doesn't mean its the best option for optimal growth but for the average gym bro- I dont think you are loosing out THAT much if you lean on shakes vs meals

Yesterday my entire day and schedule got flipped. I had meals prepped, but it was a matter of time to actually eat them.

So I pivoted and drank 3 of my 6 meals. Didn’t miss a macro and life went on. Lol

The number of guys who still get hung up on this cracks me up. I tell guys all the time if you can’t make the time to eat the meal- drink it. Don’t miss a work obligation, your kids sports game or an event with your wife.

Aim for whole food, but at the end of the day if it’s a shake vs missing a meal- drink it.

In terms of Jay- he was sponsored by Muscle Tech. Back then it sold magazines and it sold product.

could not agree with your comments more. Its got to get down one way or the other.

My comment is strictly regarding personal preference. Some people really enjoy the texture and flavors of foods.

I get half my daily protein from shakes now. After 4 decades of eating like a bodybuilder I dislike eating in general so shakes are a real boon.

I find the most adamantly opposed people are often those that haven't even tried it. They just parrot talking points. I just usually substitute with additional vitamins and minerals to give me the piece of mind that I'm at least trying to mimic a meal

This just shows how much the internet can mislead people.

Roman does not eat junk food all year round. He does not normally eat sugary cereals or stuff like that. Ironically, he only does that during contest carb loading. Before competitions he may eat McDonald’s or sugary cereals, but only because he needs to push extremely high amounts of carbohydrates.

During the year he normally eats no less than 1000 grams of carbs per day. And most of it comes from clean sources like rice, cream of rice, fruits, and things like that. Around the workout he may add some gummy candy, but honestly what is bad about Haribo gummies? Nothing. It is just pure sugar, the same as drinking dextrose or glucose. So what exactly is bad about that?

Roman can literally eat three bags of rice per meal. I mean 300 grams of uncooked rice in one meal. And 300 grams of dry rice becomes around 1.5 kilograms of cooked rice. So imagine that.
Roman does not eat junk food. What some people here are saying is complete nonsense. They are only looking at his contest carb loading phase, where he eats 2000 grams of carbs per day or even more. At that point, of course he needs easier sources like maple syrup or sugary cereals, otherwise it would be physically impossible to eat enough food. He would literally need to eat buckets of rice, which would be terrible for stomach volume, especially right before a competition.
This thread is a little old, but I think this post from Roman is relevant. The video is titled “Sugar instead of rice.” He provides more context on digestion, and why he started replacing some of his traditional bodybuilding carbs (like rice) with more simple sugars.

“I’ll tell you quite honestly, when you east as many carbohydrates as I do (over 1,000g). Then it doesn't matter whether it comes from sugar, rice, fruit, or Haribo. Honestly, I could drink sugar water and it would have the same effect. It all ends up in the blood as glucose. The only difference is the strain on digestive system caused by the process required to digest rice. Instead of constantly increasing my rice portions, I am keeping them around the same and simply eating more sugar with each meal.”

This is exactly what the shakes are for!!! Sometimes I get so slammed with work there’s just no time to stop and eat properly. I keep a couple of shakes with me ready to just add water for this reason. On a good day I won’t need any, but on a brutal day, I can still hit my macros.

If I was the size of these guys eating that mamy calories a day I would absolutely be trying to get calorie dense meals.too for no other reason than to help digestion and try to limit the inevitable midsection protruding. Makes perfect sense.

I recall Justin harris saying similar on his high days. He said he let's his guys get half the carb intake from simple sugars if needs be.
If you look on the troponin nutrtion guide book they have an approved food items to use freely and under carbs is jelly/jam, fat free candy, fruit juices etc.

Exactly, and the approach seems to be working really for Roman. I can't name another open pro bodybuilder with a waist like his at over 120kg.

Jay has so many stories that are completely opposite from each other, times he said he never ate beef and other videos he said he was buying whole cows, prepping with 1000 grams of carbs a day, drinking a 24 case of Mountain Dew in prep, ect
They all do that crap on those short clips. Ronnie didn't even know what a cheat meal was. Next clip Ronnie lived on in and out burger, etc. Then they wonder why we dont believe there doses. I never went above 750 test blah blah. Then you hear they ate 6-10 Anadrol a day.

Insta story from today detailing Roman’s carb up for the Empro Spain Pro. That’s over 2kg carbs across 4 meals 😳

When i was pushing under Jordan Peters i was eating kellogs frosties as pwo meal along with "lactose free" milk and protein powder fuckin loved it !

I was pushing the insulin hard at this point so yeah that part plays into it offcourse, but its not for all thats for sure, personally i loved it. I didnt have the rebound effect with sleep etc no idea why but didnt get that, maybe because of my secondary meal ?
I never notice any sugar spikes OR dips with cereal around training either. But I'm almost always combining it with a protein source, a complex carb, and a fruit. For example cream of rice with cereal, banana or strawberries, and whey isolate/ milk. I think the protein and fiber help slow the digestion, the rice helps balance glucose : fructose. Just my 2 cents.

That could very well be, ive never suffered much from hard crashes unless i was messing around with my insulin doses and carbs needed to fuel it.
