Anyone use this brand? I stumbled onto it in Walmart last night and picked some up......decently priced and it didn't read "grass finished" so I assumed it was the real deal

I have been looking for a while now and not seen any...just Bison. I do however keep seeing Walmart commercials where they say they're working with local farms and farmers to bring the best and freshest produce etc. My guess is that Walmart is sourcing in each area possible( in a given radius ) and attempting to source from there. Where are you located?

Haven't noticed it, but I'll check if my store has it.

Grass fed is almost main stream now. My super target stocks it.

I only buy grass fed beef/bison. They say wal-mart meat is pretty good, but Id rather get mine from Whole Foods. They are known for carrying high quality, organic products.

how much are you guys ending up paying at Walmart and Super Target?

Grass finished means it IS the real deal

U sure? Grass finished means it was fed just like the rest of cows are for the majority of its life, THEN they switch it to grass to finish it correct?........anyway this said 100% grass fed beef. Did a little research and seems like a good brand.....and by the way it was very tasty!

They say grass finished to distinguish it from grass fed, grain finished. There's no grain fed, grass finished. I checked out their site, it looks like good stuff!

Exactly. All cattle start out on grass and then they finish them on grain to fatten them up for slaughter. If they say grass
finished they are letting you know that they fed the animal that way the entire life.

The grain finish literally ruins almost every benefit of the grass feeding phase, and it happens remarkably quickly. It's disturbing to me that you can call beef grass fed when its grain finished. It may as well be grain fed. I'm looking for the article that has some empirical data on this.

Agree. Totally ruins the profile and negates the point. 100% grass fed and finished is the only way to go.

Ok this seems to be confusing to some people. All cows are fed grass to begin with!:banghead:

Grass fed cattle switched to corn feed to finish before slaughter are called = corn fed cattle.

Grass fed cattle that don't get switched to corn...but continue to eat their natural diet of grass to finish are called = grass fed cattle.

Sadly this is not the case. The rules are very loose, and stores take advantage of this fact. I shared your view for the longest time, and the discovered that My whole foods sells grass fed that is grain finished. It's total bullshit!!!

How much is this per lb?

GF? I've seen anywhere from $6 to $9 for 85/15 ground, all the way to $25-$30 for filet.

As soon as I can buy a separate freezer I'm driving out to the country to pick up a bulk order. I found a farm that looks great. They give you a tour and show you how everything works and how the animals live. It has to feel good to support a local farm instead of getting robbed by marketing gurus.

Yeah we just got a new standup freezer and we need to stock it with a bunch of grass fed beef and other hunt game from up in Maine!

you can actually smell and taste if its GF

I'm at the point now that it's hard to trust any of the claims. If it doesn't smell like the real deal to me I don't buy it anymore.
