The only lesson here to learn is that riding is extremely dangerous. I have owned a bike and ridden since I was 15. I know every time I leave on it there’s a risk. The older I get the more I wonder if it’s worth that risk. When I hear stuff like this I think “probably not”.

I rode for about 10 years. Gave it up forever about 15 years ago. I cannot even count how many guys I know that either got hurt, hurt badly, or died because of it. I get why they do it, it's hard to explain if you have never done it, but the decision to walk away was a no brainer.

Yup. But it was like that long before phones. You just can't ride motorcycles around cars. It's that simple. It can be as little as someone not adjusting their mirrors properly (way higher percentage than you think) and having too many blind spots

Exactly, so the actual definitive moment for me was when one of my best friends got hit, and hurt, not badly, but bad enough.

The thing is, he is a secret service motorcade rider, and had been for at least 10 years at the time. If you aren't aware, the training and skills those guys have literally make them the best riders in the world. They are the tier 1, DEVGRU, CAG equivalent of motorcycle riders. It was like if this guy can get messed up this badly outside of his control, what the hell could happen to me as a casual ass rider? I have a family that I need to be there for, and as much as I love it, it's unnecessary risk to take where I may potentially leave them without a dad or husband

This is what worries me. I rode for a very long time. Had a period when I was away from competing and was active in a motorcycle club back in NY, which riding there was a breeze compared to FL. Stopped riding when I moved to Vegas as I didn’t want to risk getting hurt trying to make a comeback to ththe stage. Recently got my bike back on the road and it’s been pretty eye opening seeing how reckless the drivers in south Florida are. The phones are a big problem along with just people not giving a damn

See, I have ridden all my life..started with dirt bikes as a kid..did it competitively(was never great)…but that morphed into riding the bikes everywhere.

I stopped riding on the street about 10 years ago when I sold my 3 road bikes to fund a project…I never missed the bikes at all..my dad(RIP) had a garage full of them and I would ride with him sometimes..but I never enjoyed it again. Too much of a damn headache.

I still avidly ride off-road…me and a co-worker raced the trails today doing stupid shit at stupid speeds for a while..but I don’t get on the road anymore

I had a buddy at the gym when I was in college.. nice kid. 19 years old or so at the time

We were chatting one night after a workout, said our goodbyes, and planned to lift together the next day

I walk in the gym the very next day to see a picture of him on the door saying ‘rest in peace’

Shortly after we parted ways, he was hit by a U-Haul truck and killed

We had just made plans not 12 hours before.. and then he was gone forever

It's only natural for people to try and find understanding and community and share their similar experiences in a time like this. I see nothing wrong with it. This thread is titled "just a forewarning." It mentions Fouad nowhere in the title or first post. Why not start a new thread with Fouad's name it and keep the thoughts and prayers there. This thread went off the rails right away since no one's name was mentioned initially. I mean people were wanting to take bets on who it was a few posts back
