Just a neat semaglutide story

So, I got a new young doc, pretty out of the box thinker.

We have now started using semaglutide low dose on my older schizophrenic patients to offset the hunger and weight gain from long term heavy antipsychotics.

And it’s working. Blood sugars are down in the 3-4 I’ve been keeping up with, and all of them have lost a few pounds. I can’t really put a number on it, just like 3-4 pounds across the board

And this is with energy dense meal trays, locked unit with little activity.


I just thought it was really neat to see a glp-1 agonist being used for that. I just needed to tell someone. My co workers don’t get as excited as me when it comes to pharmacology lol

What kinda of dosing has been used?

My dad uses it, and he likes it a lot. He noticed weight loss, and he is fairly sedentary at late 60's with double knee replacements. He also has colitis, and it does not negatively affect him like other diabetic meds do (ie Metformin, etc).

I’m taking it now. It’s an amazing drug. My hunch is that it will become one of the most common rx in the US in 10-15 years. Although I’m not taking it for hypertension, my bp does tend to be a bit higher than I’d like. Well, after 2 weeks on semaglutide my readings are now around 110/60.

So I read the other thread, for our purposes it makes you not hungry? Could be useful but I feel like for many we eat because we enjoy food, not because we can't control hunger.

Any more info on cancer risk?
