just got back from the doc.

I'm glad you got this taken care of Slice! Hopefully you start to feel rested and just better overall.

As long as it doesn't affect Slices sarcastic one liners quirky replies to some people in threads, I agree :D

Is there a way to get a mask without seeing a doctor, or is it a prescription type deal?

Sleep apnea is a mechanical issue. Your body doesnt stop breathing... your jaw kicks back. And you begin to cut off your air supply.

I got my my throat laser cut with a tonsilectomy and opened up my nose. I am 80. perce t better. The operation is horribly painful and expensive, but worth it.

. Get a mouthpiece that positions your jaw..most people dont need a cpap....doctors will sure to be there to take your money.

Good luck man
I had numbers similar to yours
Started with c- pap
Horrible, felt like i was inflating a ballon all night
Now I have bi-pap but honestly struggle to use it
It's so bothersome
Tubes and shit hanging off ur face all night... U roll over and break the seal and it like an air hose blasting u in the face
I have to hit the mj just to chill enough to use it

Your CPAP will have many mask options. Try a Pilaro Nasal Pillow. Much better than the full face mask.

I'd like to hear more about your procedure..I assume you mean the recovery was painful?
I have full health care so I am not worried about costs..I've seen my father trying to getting used to using a C-pap, I'd much rather endure the operation then deal with the mask issues.

the mask should be good for gains... since apparently ive been sleeping like shit.

according to the charts, there were numerous periods where I was only asleep for about 3 minutes before I woke back up

I probably haven't had a good night's sleep in years... as I have had concentration and memory issues for a while now.

You are going to feel like a new man! I also didnt realize how shitty i felt everyday. The workouts sucked, i had no energy, lazy at work, every break i would fall asleep, my bp was high from apnea, just a complete mess. My gf use to get scared from my gasping. Now with the cpap i sleep like a baby, nice and rested. Glad your getting a cpap

Bad advice.

Good luck with your mask I have full face as I breath thru my mouth when I sleep. I had the surgery and it worked for a few months then I was back to needing a cpap machine.

Bio, have you been screened?

Sorry, not sure what you mean by screened?

My fiance told me I repeatedly stop breathing during the night. I was scheduled to do a sleep study a year ago but I was in the middle of my surgeries...4 in 16 months! Right now I'm recovering from a fractured T6 vertebrae and pedicle bone so it might be a good time to get it done!

I was diagnosed 4 years ago. Weight definitely has an impact on how severe it is. If you have it, you will most likely still have it at a lower body weight, it is just less severe and less noticeable. I compete at around 195 pounds, and it took me getting to 240+ before it became so severe that even if I slept for 8 hours I would literally be falling asleep everywhere in my day to day life. I remember I fell asleep at a nightclub with blaring music simply because I was so exhausted from having zero real deep sleep because I would apnea hundreds of times per night. Once I got my cpap my sleep quality changed positively 100000%. As long as the mask is on, you will have complete uninterrupted sleep and not stop breathing randomly like you would without the mask. Not only will you finally get a good nights sleep, but more importantly you will be saved from the inevitable health complications that would arise if you didn't use cpap. I am confident that several bodybuilders deaths can be attributed to undetected sleep apnea. I wouldn't have even known I had it if I didn't have a family member notice I was literally stopping breathing for long periods of time during my sleep and gasping for air during the night. The sleep specialist told me had I not got this diagnosed and left it untreated, I would guarantee have had a stroke before turning 30 (I was 20 at the time).

The thing guys need to realize with sleep apnea is every single time you stop breathing during your sleep, you are dropping the oxygen levels in your brain severely, killing brain cells, and making your heart go berserk beating very fast. Doing this every single night for years on end, will inevitably lead to cardiovascular issues in the future.

Incorrect and only applicable to a small portion of those diagnosed. Getting a simple x-ray will reveal if your jaw position has an impact on your sleep apnea. Got this done and it saved me from a pointless surgery that wouldn't have even helped my condition at all.

HomeSlice:

Masks make the man. Do not judge on the initial reaction to your mask. There are many variations. I didn't use my initial cpap cause I was too lazy to explore options since I was unhappy getting it anyone. Now, I collect masks, like kids collected Pokémon cards. They vary greatly. I have tried all basic "categories". Some will work for you, some will not depending on if you are a "mouth breather" etc. Been accused of it many times and finally confirmed: I am one. Then, chin strap or full face? Full face options have changed greatly in the last year.

Also, get the most automatic, best machine possible. The basic CPAP does not allow you to control exhale pressure. Try your best to at least get an auto PAP. I actually now have a Bi-level. It truly helps cause the "blowing up balloons" on exhale is the hardest thing to get used to. Also the auto machines, we typically have the "clinical menu" codes and can change settings at will

Is there a direct correlation between age and risk? My father has sleep apnea, and I have most of the symptoms associated with sleep apnea. Being 23 years of age, is this problem even common for my demographic?
Get a sleep study done if anyone you've slept with has complained you snore, gag choke, and wake up constantly through out the night.

I have an APAP. I love it. My machine is connected to wifi and I get a full sleep report every morning which score my sleep time, episodes, leaks and how many times I take my mask off.

i am one month into my therapy.

most insurance want to make sure you will use it so do your best to build up the amount of hours you use it for each night.

dont try to wear it all night as you may get miserable trying to fall to sleep. i suggest even a bit during the day.

imo if you dont know if you are a mouth breather or not id still go with a nasal mask. if you are breathing through your mouth to much it will report as leakage they will detect this asap.

during the compliance period even if the mask is working still complain and get yourself a diff type. allows you to try it while insurance will pay.

i tried a bpap but my insurance didnt want to pay so went with a cpap from resmed.

when picking the mask think hard about your sleep habits. do you like to watch a lil tv? side or back sleeper? etc. use these to help choose a mask. oh do u wear glasses?

i picked a great mask. if youd like to know the name pm me as i cant rem it now. lol

oh and using a nasal mask one can tend to get congested more. so start on a low humidity setting and bump up one level a night. also look into a product called ayr.

sorry just threw some of my findings at you.

i pers struggled with the mask until i decided not to try to wear it the whole night and the goal was for an hour or 2 and increased it a bit every night.

I just went into my Dr last week, my wife said I have to get it checked out because at night she said I would stop breathing.

After talking to my Dr, this is no joke and people need to get it taken care of.

Getting a big sleep study done on myself next week.

I was issued a mask in July. My sleep has turned into Hibernation. I am currently 5'11", 230, 14%

My machine is an Active Pressure type. It starts out low pressure and ramps up when you fall asleep, then self-adjusts, and I use a nasal mask.

glad you are getting it taken care of. I promise your sleep quiality will improve. Now I am afraid to be without it. Only once have I slept without it since I got it.
