Just got out of the hospital with a major blood clot in the leg.

PESTY! bro sooooooooooooo glad you are allright.

PHIL (and anyone experienced) do you think test was involved or could have been due to high blood pressure? or are there other factors?

-JS

The doctor seems to think it runs in the family. My brother had 1 a year ago and had a heart attack and my 1 uncle died form a blood clot. As long as I get checked and take blood thinners, proper bloodwork, I should be OK.

Yes test was involved and in his situatin with a blood disorder the risc is much higher than for some one with out the blood disorder.

I been saying over and over before taking any anabolics pleas have tested for blood disorders.

G, holy shit! So glad to hear your doing good. You need anything, you know how to reach me...heal up fast bud!

Glad to hear you're okay Greg. Had you been keeping an eye on your blood pressure? What was it?

so good you caught it.....

its a scary thing man, just roll with the punches
everything will play out as it will

i try NOT to interfer with lifes journey
i'm just along for the ride

Testosterone tends to decrease blood-clotting ability at HRT dose because it increase plasmin, antithrombin III, and protein S levels, stimulate fibrinolysis (clot breakdown), and suppress clotting factors II, V, VII, and X. increases in prothrombin time, a measure of how long it takes for a blood clot to form.

BUT
At Supraphysiological doses (which 500 mg could be considered?) it does the opposite and elevate thrombinand C-reactive protein and thromboxane A2 receptor density, that support clotting.

At a certain dosage level for each individual and you having family history of clots would come into play, the pro-clotting changes in the blood appear to overtake the anti-clotting effects. These are where the anti-steroid campaigns scare people(with some truth to their claims) about steroids dangers of fatal blood clots, embolisms, and strokes.

All this also is the reason you let the doctor know before surgery so anesthesia can be adjusted etc..

Anyway, glad you caught it and are okay:)

I notice something different in myself personally. At higher doses, my Platelet count goes way down, and my Hematocrit doesn't go up more than an HRT dose. Also, the HRT dose (150mg/week) raises my Hematocrit over time just as much as higher doses do.

Thanks...

Thanks for posting this Pesty, these kind of threads are always so valuable in teaching us that, yes, indeed we are all susceptible to various injuries/problems. Hopefully it will be read with teachable minds.

Glad things will be working out OK for you.

The HCT being similiar in bloodwork at low and high doses doesn't surprise me too much. But platelets decreasing is odd to me.But I am not a specialist and my knowlege in this area is pretty limited.

Ive been warning now for 2 years

I just read in that thread about Nick Winter's death, that he died from a blood clot. He probably either had it in his heart like me or in the lungs like Big Bopper. Now Pesty had one. There are others of us on here too that have had them, Emeric had one. Emeric has urged people to get some genetic testing done on this before you start whooping it up with the steroids, and I think thats a good idea. I almost died 2 years ago and it really wakes you up to the real dangers we take when taking steroids the way we do.

I am now on HRT from an endo at the dose of 120mg/wk and have been fine. I do take coumadin now though, just to be safe. I survived one bad heart attack somehow, about half my heart is dead, but I wont survive a second one.

Be careful guys, please.

Really glad you went to the doc Greg, damn man.

To answer your question: Doctor said it was OK to train. I don't train heavy anyways, but stricter form. Test really didn't contribute, IMO. I haven't taken over 500mg in about 3 months. The Doctor told me it is genetic (runs in the family). As long as I take the coumadin and get blood work, I will be OK.

Did you already have a DNA test then? Im wondering how he could say that it was genetic. Usually it takes several weeks to get DNA test results. Also, most that have the gentetic traits that increase the chance of clots usually dont have problems, but its when we take these hormones that the added stimuls for clotting from the drugs throws you over the edge. Even guys on just HRT have to watch out, and so to say that it probably wasnt the test because you hadnt gone over 500 mg in 3 months doesnt really matter. 500mg is still a big risk when it comes to clots especially if you really do have a genetic condition varified from DNA tests.

Holy cow Greg. I am glad you are OK! Hearing stuff like this is scary for me too. Were you taking a daily aspirin before this happened?

I had been taking one pill a day for about 6 months before my clot. It helps reduce chances, but in no way will guarantee a thing.

Sounds like its a good chance. You really do need to get those DNA tests run though. My condition I discovered was prothrombin disorder. Emric has factor 5 i believe.

Excellent post! I have now seen that taking my HRT dose of test has decreased my clotting also. At times I may need to decrease my coumadin dose because of this. Once you go higher dose though, it all goes out the window.

Very true. I take one every morning but the best solution is to keep the hemotocrit in the safe zone. Its worth remembering that a red blood cell has a life of about 127 days.

So glad to see u alive and kicking, Greg! :) Such events make u realize how that life is precious...

Hearing about all these blood clots scares the hell out of me...
