Just turned 40 WTF??

Only difference I noticed when I turned 40 was the joint pain after workouts! No changes in sex drive, mood or energy just joints that felt like they were rubbing up against concrete. GH helped with that in an unbelievable way to the point that I’ll never come off it
When you hit 50 it sucks even more. Cant wait for 60. I turn 52 in January.

Someone earlier mentioned memory going. I will be speaking and cant remember words and names. I will have to stop and think about what word I am searching for. Maybe my heart attack and heart failure messed up my brain too.

I have been taking 3 grams of fish oil & 2 grams of flax oil daily for several yrs. Is there any truth to flax being estrogenic? I know fish oil (omega3) has anti inflamatory properties but I have never noticed a difference. I have also been taking pro-biotics for the past few yrs. All of this stuff helps but we have to remember it is the macros that make us.

Bro…the guy is 54 now
Fuck , lmfao i didn't see the date. Guess im going fn blind now too .

How many iu's per day

Damn would love to have the OP come on in and let us know how he is doing lol

I think what gets a lot of guys in trouble, is that they become less consistent with going to the gym. Going back after a lay-off can be brutal for a few weeks as you get near and after 40, or beyond. Even going through the motions help out, rather than taking a lot of time away...at least it helps when transitioning back to harder runs. That said, yea, injuries happen a lot easier from the years of wear-and-tear, especially if form was bad.

I think also a lot of guys who reach a certain stage, their goals change as they get older, and they stop eating as much, but they still train hard, and the fewer calories and nutrients prevents them from also recuperating as well, as a result. There are times i just do not want to eat as much these days, then I question why I am so damn sore for an extra day or two after, and recovery is down, after killing it in the training...lol. Not everybody, but many, imo.

I love my early 40’s best shape i have ever been. And i was always in shape.

Diet is the difference maker. Most people as they age become less active, tend to eat a little shittier, thus gaining weight and increasing inflammation. That's why most of you ache so much as you age. Yes the body has more wear and tear as you age but if you continue to exercise HARD and eat a nutritious whole food minimal processed diet then you will feel quite amazing and look amazing. Shit I'm 50 and other than a little digestive problems here and there I feel and look AMAZING!

I think being on a lot of medications makes it harder too. As people age, they tend to end up taking more and more medicine to treat their maladies. I truly believe all of the shit I have to take now for my heart failure really has my body screwed up bad. I dont have any choice though. It is an extreme example, but being prescription drug free is important for health I believe.

I look back on my 40's as my golden era things were starting to wear down but i could do as i pleased for the most part and just rolled along with some ups and downs. Now in the early 50's the downward slope started to get steeper. And in my 60's now and i just try not to fall off the cliff.

In your 80s youre trying to not fall down and break a hip! My parents and aunt/uncle are falling a lot these days.

That is an issue for sure for most people. But one i don't think i will have to worry about breaking things. After my last ortho surgery the Dr. said i had bones of granite. Lifting weight does have some long term benifits.

Anybody that suffers from poor memory should look into real mushrooms lions mane. I started to have some memory loss issues and lions mane has made a huge difference. Have turned it on to some of my co workers and has helped them a lot, Stuff has ben amazing for me. Real mushrooms is the only brand I would use. Maldorf trust me bro. I am positive it will help.

My opinion... 50 isn't any better. But to be honest, it isn't significantly worse either. Learn your limitations and reconsider your goals. You aren't 30 something anymore. For me, my mid 30's were my best years. It was definitely a downward slope from there. Still very lean and muscular, but I can't maintain the doses or mass I once did.

The hip breaks and then they fall.

Turned 40 two months ago:eek: . Some days I feel 20 but then others I feel more like 70... Sometimes I just feel achy all over for days, sometimes more.. Seems like every once in a while this happens. I am not overtraining or anything either. God forbid if I go too heavy or change it up to much too fast & I am hurting. Thank God for motrin. Some anxiety/ mild depression not helping the situation at the moment. Is 50 any better?? lol...
I would say you stable out in a year or so but I'm coming up on 50 this next year and I still and a train wreck.
LOL a motorcycle accident didn't help but still I am drained and in bed by 930 and up at 4am

I am getting closer to 50 now adays.... past few years I have had to really start listening to my body, can't go as heavy anymore or I will end up hurting myself for days.... Past few years I have actually been dialing back the weights and bodyweight. 30 years in the gym has taken it toll on my joints and body. I have to accept I am getting old, and it sucks. I leave the heavy shit for the kids now.

I'm friends with Ernestine Shephard who is the Guinness Book of world records oldest female bodybuilder... Funny thing is that she didn't even begin training until her late 40's. In MD we also have Jen Ronzitti who didn't start exercising until she was around 30. I think one advantage they both have in their mentality is that they were not constantly comparing themselves with what their younger selves were able to do. Once you start doing that, of course you are going to get discouraged.

Ernestine told me that the other big mistake people make is worrying about "feeling energetic" in order to exercise. She just sets a schedule and does it, even if she knows her performance might not be the best that day. In those cases it often turns out to be a good workout anyway.
