well.. as i wrote before the last three months have been pretty stressful.. not on the board like i like.. the company i work for had layoffs and many of us are picking up the slack.. alot of driving between stores ect.. then before that i had a bad elbow injury.. nailed me good.. no training for about 4 months.. just when the elbow was feeling better and was able to start training and work was calming down...another hit..

been having knee issues on the knee that i tore my quad on (tore it about 20 years ago).. about 4 weeks ago it was getting where i was having difficulty walking.. my job entails alot of walking.. so each day was a struggle.. i finally could not take it and went in for x ray and mri.. the doc here thought it was just a matter cleaning out the knee and although i was basically bone on bone in the medial compartment i thought i had time..

well i went to a specialist about two hours from here.. the news was not good.,. a partial knee replacement at the tender age of 43.. the other knee though not as bad, was showing sign of arthitis and probably not far behind.. needless to say i have been bummed big time.. major depression to say the least .. and most will tell ya i dont ever get depressed..

so tomorrow i will go get a second opinion with a guy who specializes in meniscus replacement to see if i am a candidate for that instead of the replacement.. it is a long shot but worth the drive.. if i can ge tthat i have many more years of activity.. if i get the partial replacement i am screwed in that regard.. WISH ME LUCK.. if it aint one thing its another lately..:(

hopefully i know tomorrow.. the knees are alot of genetics.. as my mom has aweful knees and my brother has had a few surgeries alos.. but the full squats years ago did not help lol.. the constant walking in my job really aggravated it over the years.. so i hope and prey that this guy has a better option.. ill keep ya posted..

Orthotics?

Sorry for the trouble LATS... miss you on the board too... I hope things will work out for you... any chance of maybe some good orthotics? Although your ankles are fine, if you have a good orthotic to support and distribute the weight it should take some stress off the knee's too.

I agree, with the shoes. It starts with your feet. I was really resistant to getting those Shape -Up shoes cuz they looked so ugly, but everyone that had swore that they were awesome, so i bought a pair cuz I stand a lot when i'm working 2 jobs (bouncing and valet). Dude! they ARE awesome, took all the stress away from knees and back plus give me 2 inches in height. lol! Anyways, hope everything works out Lats... and Myosin, have a great time in the Philippines, slam down a few balut eggs when your there, talk about protein packed, lol!

Been putting off a similar problem, Sometimes missed the compresion stroke kicken over my harley and would hyper extend my knee, hurt like a MFer when it would happen. No problems since for 15yrs but then 3yrs ago it came back to haunt me. Hurts right now and with my job could be a long summer. At 42 hope this isn't a sign of things to come... Good luck.

Lats, keep your head up....at sometime in our life we all cross this bridge. Good luck and hope all turns out for the best. Keep us posted. :)

Wishing you the best bro on a second opinion!

Fingers crossed for you Lats. I hope it's good news and you're able to continue doing what you love

Lats:

Sorry for your troubles. It can seem like things pile up on us but we always make it through them. It is difficult to deal with some of these problems that might be acceptable at an older age earlier in life. As you are aware I had a massive heart failure (about as bad as it can get). I believe the exact words were I had heart function "incompatible with life". LOL

I am 5 weeks into a total hip replacement and it has been great. I had the heart failure at 45 and the hip replacement at 49. I will be fifty in May.

I hope you can get by without a replacement if it means you can be pain free. If you are not going to be pain free you really have to consider the quality of life options. One revelation I had after surgery was that my hip was causing more problems in my life than I was aware of. I had become good at blocking out the pain as many of us hear are. I feel it was having an effect on my mood and happiness much deeper than I realized now that I am unburdened with it.

While the knee replacement, sux, there are no two ways about it, I have multiple friends who have had both done and are extremely active in racquet sports and tri-athalon activities. While these may not be recommended I've seen it with my own eyes.

In closing, as down as some of these issues can get us, its temporary and solving these issues usually improves our life in a short period of time. Good luck my friend.

Man, sorry to hear! Wishing you the best brother!!

Good luck brotha

Im sure you know as being the tender age of 43 :) that life throws us lots of obsticles. As I know from myself with having multiple injuries and even cancer. At the end of the day that I think to my self there is a reason I was ment to struggle. Because I know me and I'm not letting shit get in my way when I want something.

So stay strong and stay positive!! It's just a minor hick up in this little plan called life.

Lats, first of all, we have missed you around here brother.

I hate to hear you are having to deal with this. Although the set-backs and down time are not fun and can mess with your head and generally, just be a pain in the ass, I am convinced we all have to face these from time to time. You are not alone in that fact… just life. I have had my share. I am dealing with my recent cervical fusion and I miss going to the gym and just dealing with this gets old, dammit. Small consolation. Keep your head up. From past experience, a good doctor will work wonders and once you come out the other side, you'll be glad you faced this head-on. Advancements in ortho the past years has been pretty amazing. The end result will be far superior than you may see at the moment.

Get some good opinions and keep up posted.

get a few second opinions just to make sure....good luck bro....

I'll post more later as I don't have a lot of time but will look up my links on prolotherapy/GH as alternatives to knee surgery and replacements-direct injections into the knee vs surgery..

sorry to hear about that. i hope everything works out for the best

Man sorry to hear that...I have been down to your area, a lot the last few months...and I havnt seen ya at all...Hope things get better...best wishes:D
