My pc got infected by this virus/trojan... I've tried using Spybot, McAfee scan, and Multi AV scanning Tool.. Running each in normal mode and safe mode.. I am running windows XP 32 bit version.. with all security updates..

It seems like the system tray icon is gone (red circle with white x).. I am able to access Task Manager from the system tray.. But im still getting IE popups and my desktop wallpaper is still infected.. IF i go into display properties everything is greyed out in the desktop tab...

Any ideas.... Thanks..

You might be better of just saving your Data to a external hdd or thumb drive and formatting your system, its pretty tough to completely wipe a system once its infected to the point where you know the bug wont come back...

Another program you might wanna try is http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Malware bytes is what we use at our company for getting rid of malware, it seems to work really well.

- On the other hand, its pretty damn hard to run a windows based IE-browser experience these days and NOT catch something at some point. IMO its a waste reinstalling every time you get a cold.

1. get rid of the bug, the process you're doing now
2. skip IE and get firefox with the no-script plugin.
3. set windows-update to automatic

I'm unfamiliar with that particular virus.. personally I dont mess with all that spyware, malware bullshit.. Run Symantec anti-virus.. customize your actions to delete immediately and quarantine on secondary action.

Believe it or not, most AV applications default to "clean infection" on first action and "log only" on secondary.. go throught the different action types and change them all to Delete first and then Quarantine second, set your folder scan depth to at least 5 levels deep...worms and shit like to nest deeply in subfolders sometimes.. set your heuristics to maximum level..

Unfortunately, at the point where you're at bro.. in the long run you will be better off backing up your data and rebuilding your machine..
