Grad school and training are something I keep as my top priorities and lately I seem to be slacking in the studying area for classes and the food area of training.

I normally have good self control over what I do and what I am pursuing but I can't seem to keep a firm focus and seem to stray away from my diet. Sometimes also putting a low level of effort towards certain courses.

I guess the quickest remedy would be to layout the goals again and keep them in line and keep pushing towards them.

My question I guess is what keeps some of you guys driven towards what you want. Obviously I know that the reaching the goal is the main thing that keeps most pushing forward.

Maybe my issue is putting the goals to far ahead and not enough short term. Not really sure but if you guys have any tips regarding keeping the focus high and determined I would appreciate it.

If this needs to be moved to counseling section thats fine. Just thought it would be okay in this forum as well.

You have to have some fun in life.
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy...
I work and go to school, and if I push myself too hard, I start to rebel and get cranky.

I'm the same way. I'm a workaholic and rarely take breaks,,,but when I do it feels great and ai come back sharper and more focused.

Any more ideas.. I will try to reward myself more often and I appreciate that advice. Anyone else have anything they use to keep on trucking along.

Might try this..

This may be a little more practical than you are looking for, but try 1)Writing you goals down in a journal. There is something magic about putting them in writing. It takes the relatively ethereal notion of thoughts and desires and brings them down into our sensory world. 2) Keep the journal for 90 days. Write thoughts down as well. This becomes a convenant you keep with yourself.

You also should plan "breaks". If every time you slack up a little bit you feel concerned about letting yourself down, you didn't gain anything from taking it a little easier. If you allow your self to take it easier or a break as not just a reward, but a necessary part of maintaining the machine, you can better realize the benefits of taking it a little easier by eliminating most of the guilt.

Lets examine these facts: Being a bodybuilder means you have a concern for your body that puts you in the top 90% ( conservatively) of the world. Being in graduate school puts you in the top 90% in acquiring the one tool with the highest relationship to success (education). The fact that you notice a little slipping and care enough to post puts you in the top 90% of people who have problems because you asked for assistance. All these factors certainly point to one who 1) Can accomplish anything he wants 2) Is deserving of a well timed reward to refresh the mind and spirit.

Don't worry, be happy.

I have been currently 42 days on my diet and sometimes I just feel like I'm going to crack but I'm glad I read your post........Here's my motto WORK HARD PLAY HARDER!!!
