Kidney problems

I have been diagnosed with iga nephropathy which is a rare kidney disease. I will have a transplant before it is all over with. I was an amateur bodybuilder. I can't take too much protein in a day but going back at the gym maybe to retain some of my size back. Does anyone have any tips or experiences with kidney problems?

Sorry for what you need to go through, I am sure it sucks. I have CKD and just need to keep an eye on it as I get older.
Flex Wheeler had a rare kidney issue and a transplant and is now competing again. I know of a couple others who had transplants and competed again so maybe some ok news down the road.
I know the diet you are taking sucks, my mother was on dialysis for years and was on the diet prior to the dialysis.
No harm still working out, it may make you feel better. Good luck

Thanks guys. I just started some cyp n testabol with aromasin. I am taking a small dose to make sure it doesn't affect my bp. I know I have to keep my protein intake low which sucks

What a bummer! Be careful with the AAS.
I think you can build muscle just fine on 100 grams of protein per day. Eat real clean to keep the water retention down. Drink plenty of water. Good healthy fats will slow release of protein. Keep us updated. Good luck with everything.

Although eating a ton of protein can increase muscle building potential it isn't a deal breaker. Look up vegetarian athletes and they are still jacked. It can be done.

Good luck with everything and keep us posted.

Thanks guys. I had to give up my sports drinks and red meat. That is tough. Just keeping my reps to 15 to 10 reps and doing some positions of flexion training techniques and some 1 1/4 reps.

You need slower digesting protein rather than mass volume protein with your condition. This will keep your muscles fed at a constant rate. As you've been told, high protein intake can be taxing on weak kidneys, so the goal for you should be less consumption, but longer breakdown periods.

I have kidney failure from iga. I am on dialysis awaiting a transplant
Only one third of people with it go to failure. Seriously I would give up this lifestyle with kidney disease. High protein. Increased blood pressure from heavy weights. Higher body weight. Itself going to take you to failure. It doesn't happen fast and you may think you are getting away with it. Then one day it will be to late. Then you will regret it but it will be too late.
Trust me as I am at dialysis typing this.
I still think what off but I would rather have 5-10 years of normal life if I could go back.

Sorry to hear about your and the OP's situation. I agree with most of what you said, but he doesn't necessarily have to give up every aspect of the bb lifestyle. You can still hit the gym, just need to adjust your mindset/goals. Keep your bodyweight in check, bp down, sodium/carbs moderate, protein around .5g per lb of bodyweight, get off the gear. Good luck

Sorry to hear about your Situation. I've had a couple Kidney Infections when I was younger, and that was No Fun. So I can't imagine your Current condition. Hope the Transplant goes well........................ JP
P.S.
Have a friend who is on Dialysis.

So hard to read stuff like this. I hope things get more positive for you.

How old are you and what do you attribute your kidney disease to?

Damn bro. I’m sorry to hear that. One of my best friends who was my ranger brother has re occurring rhabdomyolysis that he somehow got due to one to many TBIs(traumatic brain injury). Believe it or not, damage to the central nervous system can somehow trick your body into an acute rhabdo flare up. I’ve watched him struggle with this for the past year and a half. Sadly he was obviously medically retired outta the army and now the two of us have a support group for substance abuse and ptsd/TBI called two rangers one brain since we both have TBIs. I’ve seen to many guys my age (32) go into acute renal failure due to taking the wrong amount of gear and also substance abuse. Not sure where you’re located man, but feel free to PM me if ya want some resources that could maybe help ya out. That goes for all you guys that are struggling with kidney disease.

I work in a dialysis clinic and have posted extensively on gear and kidney failure and the common link I have seen in person. I talk with these former users and they tell me what they used.

Im vegan and have never looked better in my life eating less protein. The only problems that I have is getting enough calories and I shit like 5x a day from all the fiber. I run in the mornings and do a whole body workout almost every day and have no issues with recovery. Remember when you eat a more plant based diet you'll be eating more nutritious foods.

Indeed. Don't believe the supplement company lies that you need 200 plus grams of protein a day. Propaganda.
