It appears as of late, having had a health check ive got protein in my urine....There appears to be no other related symptons that would suggest kidney damage however.

Blood pressure has been fine and on that day it was actually 134/74 or so. Theres no blood, no strong smell, no discolouring other than when ive had my B100 capsules, but then that returns to normal colour later in the day after. The only other thing is high urea and creatinine which as we know is a by product from high protein diets.

Now 2 year ago i had a kidney and liver scan and all was as expected 100% perfect.
My doctor still thinks the same and suggests that maybe the protein, which i believe was rated as +2 in my urine, is down to my heavy training and high protein diet. Which although he doesnt understand, he accepts its who i am and what i do....and i'm healthy.

However as a precaution im being sent to see a specialist and also another scan in 2 weeks....

Now my question is, is there a supplement that is known to aid in kidney function/cleansing etc??:

Im all for googling, but i like to hear from real life experience and knowledge from experienced bodybuilder/weightlifters as we are a strange lot and don't fit into the norm' and scientific studys arent always helpful......

As an example, ive read numerous articles and studys of the benefits of green tea/antioxidants and such like. But just the other day i came across an article stating that we may be doing ourselves more harm than good with green tea/antioxidants....doh!!!...:(

i use cran extract i take 3-6 caps ed @ 300mg ea.

You might want to read the article on kidney damage in the latest issue of Mus. Dev. mag. Pg. 240. It says that taking anabolic steroids will damage your kidneys in the long run. Once they are damaged in the slightest way, eating excess protein will further damage your kidneys, leading to total kidney failure. That's what happened to Flex Wheeler, who had to have a kidney transplant. Mike Mentzer died of kidney failure at age 49. There have been other bodybuilders who have also died of kidney failure before age 50. Once you have any kind of kidney problem, you can never take anabolic steroids again.

yes flush your system and take CRAN extract!!!!!!!!!!!!!

egcg from GREEN TEA is 6x potent as resveratrol
we know resveratrol ( red wine extract ) is great for gentro urinary

hop off the gear and do a cycle of doxy
isnt that what they give you for kidney stones and etc

good post

Cheers for the heads up..appreciated. However i don't exactly read to deep in to what i can call negative articles. Not that im saying theres no merit to them, but i know of people who lead a ' normal ' life and have kidney issues. Now if you were to attend a renal ward and see how many bodybuilders are there, i assume in most there would be none.....

That being said, it does not mean they could not or do not cause problems. Im sure as anything it comes down to the ratio of use to abuse. As if one was to abuse anything, it would cause problems......take 2 paracetamol for headache and its gone....take a handful and your potentially dead!!

The laws of probability suggest that in any walk of life, in any sport followed, theres going to be a number that have an issue or two. And i know from experience that regardless what that issue is, theres a presumption that AAS are the cause regardless.

I know someone who never smoked in there life, yet got lung cancer...:(

Ive a friend who is a big fella and whenever he attended the doctor, for whatever reason, a cold, a pulled muscle, an in grown hair...well maybe not that but you get the picture...he was told it was because of aas..

Think i might of gone off topic somewhat, but i hope you get the picture....Is it a blame culture.

Cheers Muat Thai

Think i'll add the cranberry extract....

Already drink Green Tea to. But whats ' doxy ' ?....

I'd recommend keeping everything the same as you have been doing so that way it will not effect the outcome of testing when you go to the specialist. Also, i'd not freak out too much until then either. Once you are checked, and if any diagnosis is given, then take it from there. You may or may not have nephrotic syndrome, but best to keep everything as is, without any unusual changes, until after you are treated by the speciaist.

Keep us updated brother:)

Do you have any prior medical conditions that you are aware of? Diabetic?, etc?

BMJ

Absolutely none....was in hospital for a week in 2008 for a suspected heart attack:eek: which turned out to be a muscular skeletal strain in my chest. They had there heads scratching as as again BP perfect, ECG readings perfect and bloods all good to, along with heart scans. Dr said look on the bright side youve had a full M.O.T and all is good. Told me i was discharged and could drive straight to the gym and do what i do....and i did.

Still no issues other than the normal reading as a result of diet and training.

I'll have to look up nephrotic syndrome.

Also im not overly concerned as i feel great. Im just letting the Dr do his thing as he's obliged to do. He even said himself what we do, eating and training wise takes us out of the ordinary ranges of the typical person, who he said if they were as conscious as we were regarding our health they would find just as much wrong, if not more due to poor dietary habits and weekend drinking.
As i said in the earlier post all else seems fine and the previous scan totally contradicted the expectations from bloods taken etc. I read an article by a Dr John Beradi who is familiar with bodybuilders and he states that when blood samples are taken they often show false reading/levels as theyre taken from a pool as opposed to circulatory blood which would then perhaps be an issue, but this pool holds higher levels due to our dietary habits and such like.

The only thing that has me thinking is the protein in the urine, but as i said the Dr even suggests its probably just from my diet and training and wasnt to overly concerned as it was reasonably low.

Re the nephrotic syndrome...checked it out and can almost say with 100% conviction it isn't that......Not 1 other symptom:cool: whatsoever

All I've read is that cranberry extract may help urinary tract infection. I'm not aware of any data showing it to protect the kidneys from damage due to high BP or steroids. Do you have anything for me to read on this?

The best stuff I know is Called Himalaya Uricare and it is used around the world and has a ton of clinical studies behind it. I use it all year round along with Himalaya Livercare otherwise known as Liv52.

Words to the wise

I only deal with clients anymore because, well, because its only fair. My advice, if you have 2+ protein you are damaging your kidneys and need to take something to protect them.........cranberry whatever will not help. You can hide from it, wish it away, but it wont change things.........go to a nephrologist now. Get a 24 hour creatinine test to see GFR........I have been through this many times and always have my clients on the look out for it........good luck.

if you are refuting cran xtract please provide holistic alternatives

Cranberry is for urinary track infections. There is no hilistic cure once the kidneyts start leaking.......you need drugs..........or a new kidney.

any preventative measures one can take?
thanks

Thats high protein leakage.
I asked the consultant could my high protein be linked to high protein intake and he said not at all.
with an elevated creatinine, that could be caused by weight training as the larger the muscle mass the higher your levels.
I also had a scan that showed everything was good. Only a biopsy will tell you the truth.

Also just cause you have high blood or protein levels in your urine will not always show discolour or a smell.

Its a good sign though that your blood pressure is not elevated or you have blood.

Phil, i seen you were viewing the thread and hoped you would pipe up with something as obviously i respect your opinion. I do have an appointment with the kidney specialist arranged by my GP as a precaution but as said at the moment its just that...a precaution, as he as a general practitioner with all things considered, as they are at present, there is not much concern.....

I'll know more in a few weeks......

I wouldnt do a thing right now. I would go see the specialist and run all the needed testing. You dont want to do anything that might hinder your results,,,you need to know the truth about kidney function.
