I have had an issue with my knees for a number of years, where there is a pronounced clicking when performing squats or leg press exercises. It used to be purely a distraction, but over the past few years it has become uncomfortable to the point where its hurting slightly.
I have been told by my physio in passing that it could be a muscular imbalance between the vastus lateralis and the Vastus medialis, causing the knee not to track correctly. Has anyone else experienced this, and how can I tell if I do have an imbalance, and if so which muscle is overdeveloped?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Having seen my mother go through two knee replacements, I am keen not to have to go down this path by not addressing this issue.
