What's up, brothers and sisters? Long time member here and I rarely post cause I don't think I have much to contribute. Mostly because there are so many with more experience and knowledge, so I just lurk and soak up what I can.

At any rate, I've been having some popping, pressure, and swelling in my knee off and on for a few months. I've been wrapping it for leg day and kickboxing and working out as normal and it's been alright. Finally flared up pretty bad this past couple of weeks, so I went to the doc who ordered an MRI. Cartilage is tearing/torn away from the bone so I'm scheduled to get it scoped next Wednesday.

Anyone else had arthroscopic cartilage repair done on a knee? Doc says crutches 5-6 weeks. Any suggestions to stave off atrophy since I obviously won't be hitting heavy leg day for awhile? Any exercises that can be done? I know I'll have some suggestions from my surgeon and PT, but just trying to plan ahead. I've been on a steady streak the past 12 months (diet and training) and want to maintain as much as possible while I recover.

Just take it easy after your surgery and slowly get back into things. Take your PT seriously. You would be better off downshifting and loosing a little muscle, recovering well, and then ramping it back up to where you were rather than pushing to hard to quickly and creating another problem with your knee or other body part. Training the other leg and all other body parts may help but there is nothing wrong with time off. Even Ronnie took months off after the O and still came back the next year even bigger.

All valid points and good advice. I appreciate it.

I had my knee scoped for the same thing back in 2010...I ditched the crutches in a few days...

Thanks for chiming in Dave! I don't want to rush things, obviously, but good to hear things like this. How long until you were back to normal physical activity?

Well, I was 50 when my knee was scoped, but I remember squatting light again in a month...

I broke off a 4cm diameter chunk of bone/cartilage combo from the medial head below the knee. I had the piece removed, and was off of crutches later that day. I was in the gym doing super light leg extensions later that week. My thought process is blood flow = nutrient flow = recovery.

I recovered very fast. The one thing I could've done to make recovery quicker, is if I would've used Aleve directly after surgery. I didn't use it until a month later, when inflammation and swelling wasn't going down quickly enough on its own.

Holy hell, doing leg extensions later that week? You're a madman!

Lol. I was literally only doing the top 25 lb plate with the pin selection. It didn't cause any discomfort, I just wanted to make sure I could keep it mobile and get bloodflow to it while it attempted to heal.

Even if you're against NSAID's like I am, I do recommend using them sooner than I did. Aleve went a long ways.

Yeah, I don't like to take too much, painkiller/NSAID wise, but I've been told that it will be necessary. I appreciate the feedback.
