I live in south jersey. For anyone in the NJ, or New York area, who do you recommend? I saw an endo last year, and he seemed pretty clueless. He put me on clomid, and I got my most recent labs done a couple months later back in December. my total test was in the mid 400's with 84 free.

I went to him originally bc of very low test numbers, he told me TRT wasn't a good idea and I wouldn't be able to have children if I went that route 🙄
I'm 28 and want kids in the next few years so that's definitely very important to me. So if anyone knows a good doc who is knowledgeable with hormones and supps etc, I'd love to hear. I plan to test my levels again in the next couple months just to see where I'm at, and I'd like to get some advice from someone who is in the know about this stuff and what he/she recommends, not someone who is just gonna tell me testosterone is bad for me. Post here or Pm me if you want is fine too :)

Go direct to the ED specialists, they're the most helpful.

I recommend looking into doctors who are or were formerly associated with TRT clinics. Doesn't mean you have to go through the clinic and pay the monthly fees -- sometimes you can just go through the doctor.

Also, having levels below the lab's reference range will be helpful.

Dr. Huberman in Summit NJ is a good endo and knows how to prescribe TRT and what needs to be done for fertility when your ready to have kids. However, if your Test levels are in the 400's I doubt he or any endo will prescribe you TRT as your levels are not below the normal range (lower limit is ~348 I believe). Also, any good doc, especially at your age, will likely want to ensure your levels do not come back up on their own and/or try to figure out if there are any underlying causes for low Test (i.e. any pituitary issues) before prescribing TRT. This will involve monitoring your Test levels for up to 6 months and looking at other hormones (LH, FSH, prolactin, etc).

If your set on going on TRT then your best bet may be to self administer at 100-150mg/week and get blood work done by your primary care doctor every 6 months or so to make sure everything is OK. Then come off when your ready to have kids and if you have trouble then go to a specialist (endo or urologist) at that time to help with fertility.

I know of a very understanding Endo in NJ but its South Jersey no where near NYC

Thank you for the lengthy reply brother. Yea that's the thing, if I'm still in the 400s then I'd like to explain to a doc, that I would like to be a bit higher at say 700-800 or thereabout, and see what they have to say about it. I mean at 28 years old I feel I should be at least up around that range.

BlackStang:

Things have changed in the last several years. Non TRT Clinic docs, i.e. the Fertility docs, Urologists with full practice, etc. are much more reticent to assist with TRT unless out of range. A spate of TRT Clinic Raids, a couple lawsuits, and attorneys advertising on Television to see if you want to participate in a lawsuit against Docs who prescribed TRT made some quit altogether as not worth putting the entire practice at risk over a small part of the business.

At my TRT doc, usually it is 6 to 8 women in the waiting area and me.
When I see a guy, it is usually someone working with his girl on fertility issues. Rarely do I see someone like me, although two of my friends also see him.

I was careful to not be "in range" when I restarted my TRT visits. It makes it a much easier call. "Explaining" your case is usually not helpful for these kind of docs. Mine would do it now, but he has years of history in the file.

I was also careful to not be above 900 for two tests in a row so dosage would not be altered. Can get away with one abnormal spike pretty easily but with two he has to take action.

In closing, make it easy for him. Do not rely on someone putting their medical license at risk. It is not about understanding. Believe me, my doctor is a competitive athlete himself, he "understands". He needs someone looking down the line to understand if it comes up later.

You don't think this happens. Storytime. A couple three years ago my training partner passed away. He was state level winner and in the game for thirty plus years. A month or so later I got a call from his brother who I know only in passing and WHO JUICED IN THE PAST! if I new what my friend was taking and if I would be interested in giving information about the doctor we got our legal prescriptions from. They were looking to sue.

After much prodding over multiple phone calls (probably taped) I convinced him that digging deeper into this issue would be fruitless and cast his brother in an extremely bad light due to his own alleged activities.

Our doctor did nothing wrong. Nothing. But here was a Bozo trying to sue him. It happens. Do not blame them for being careful.

Urologists help with ED issues, go that route. They're much more sympathetic. Google ED issues in your area and see who shows up. TRT will be listed on their site for those that you'll want to see.

Keep in mind that I'm talking about respectable urologists that are concerned about your health and other related issues, NOT dr feel good.

400 may be pushing it for the Normal range, but it's not too above the 300 threshold.

I went to one of the top urologist in NYC and he sucked. If you want try there are plenty of doctors who put you on it easily.

best advice is to donate sperm and freeze it, this way if you do ever have difficulty conceiving then you have a backup from your pre-TRT days
