I am not asking if you believe glutamine is garbage or not. My question is, where did the idea come from that L-glutamine is better if taken on an empty stomach? Then, I know guys that add L-glutamine to their protein shakes.

It just doesn't make sense.

[lang=fr]anyway, meat and milk contains a lot of glutamine.

I take glutamine, but only when i go to bed, because it help to release GH during sleep.[/lang]

Your not answering the guys question .

Im presuming food must interfere with absorption

did some one tell you l-glutamine was garbage??????? its one the most important amino acids in the body, your body will depleat your glutamine levels during a Intense workout! glutamine is good for skeletal muscle growth, joints, ligaments, and your immune system!!!!!! it is a must in my supplement regime... i like to use it pre workout n pwo and b4 bed... taking it with food might not allow total abbsorbtion like mentioned above..... u can get around that by taking it on empty stomach b4 you eat...i will say taking it b4 bed is very important it has been said to increase your bodies own natural HGH levels threw out the night which is a GOOD thing.....

I think we have heard many debates on whether or not glutamine "works" or not. I don't think it's garbage....I use for the immune system. Do I think it causes GH release....probably not, but it sure would be an added benefit if oral glutamine did do this.

To answer your question bro L-Glutamine is most effectively utilized when taken on an empty stomach. When taken with food its just doesnt absorb as fast, It is easily soluble in juice or water on an empty for optimal and quickest absorption. To make a long story short when taken with food it just slows down the absorption thats why most of us take postwork or before bed for faster asorption. Hope this helps

its usefulness in muscle recovery/growth is debatable. Yes glutamine itself is an important amino acid and all things stated are true, however is the fact that oral L-glutamine supplementation may not be an effective way to get those benefits due to its absorption and utilization in the digestive tract. Studies show oral glutamine has no effect on recovery/muscle hypertrophy/strength. And because of that, its debatable. Personally I supplement with it b/c its in my amino blend but its l-alanyl-l-glutamine (sustamine) which is much more stable than glutamine in the digestive tract and shows some possible benefits that people want form glutamine supplementation.

I think it has it benefits, plus it's cheap. It's marketed to do such great things, but I do not believe oral glutamine has any effect on natural gh....that straight marketing claims that are false. Furthermore, I highly doubt it control cortisol or even aids in recovery, but I think it's good to use, but I would not say it's a must have supplement.

Agreed I have found nothing or heard of any studies lending any credence towards glutamine being of any value to a bodybuilder. Only thing i've heard it being useful is in digestion and immune support.

When your body is a state of starvation or needs amino's, alanine and glutamine are the main amino's broken down to make energy. It only makes since to supplement them if in calorie deficiency (or fasting).

Last time I checked digestion and immune support were very important for bbers.

It may not directly help with muscle building, but its a useful tool none the less.
