I think Derek saw himself as the successor to Flex, I think he hoped to win the 212 title in 2019.

Maybe his first goal was to win more titles than anyone at 212 and beat Flex, but why repeat the same mistake as Flex and limit his weight and potential?

Now, he should move to the open as he has nothing more to prove or gain.

212 is for guys who can't get any bigger, short guys with small frames. It's not for guys who can weigh 230 pounds in contest condition, or guys who even weighing less than that, like Bonac or Hadi, are just as good as the heaviest bodybuilders.

Tony Burton has decided to move to the open, he's only been a pro for a year, he's done a few shows in 212 ... he's done the Olympia, he knows he can make improvements and bring a bigger package. More guys must follow that path, without fear.
