Hi guys, welcome to my contest prep log! I'll try to make this fun... :)

I just hit level 45 at the end of last year and needed to do some adventuring. I decided to go after the 2018 NPC Emerald Cup up here in the Pacific North West. I tried to take on this beast last year solo but failed so this time I'm not fucking around: I have formed a full party of teammates to help me conquer this monster! I finally realized bodybuilding is a team sport. :D

A little history of my bodybuilding and competition: I have been "bodybuilding" since I read Arnold's book at 15 (I started working on Nautilus machines at 12).

I never had the urge to compete until I met my wife at age 36, together we did the Nevada State Bodybuilding show in 2009, the Las Vegas Classic in 2010 (got married in Vegas after the show), and the Tahoe Show in 2011.

It's important to note that I took about ten years off of bodybuilding from 25 to 35, I worked out, but I also did a lot of distance running. I was my biggest (a fairly lean 250lbs) when I was 25 years old and when I went back to bodybuilding at 35, I was only 170lbs (just recovering from biceps surgery). I did my first show about a year later at 198lbs. A year after that I did my second show at 212lbs, and at 39 I was back to my full 250lbs and competed at 225lbs (I wasn't very lean...).

After this show, I really scaled back my bodybuilding program and focused on health. For the last 3-4 years I have been in the 210lbs range.

Two years ago I moved to Washington state and last year I tried to do a short prep for the 2017 Emerald Cup. About a month out from the show I pulled out and had elective shoulder surgery to remove two large "floating bodies" that were swimming around in there and tearing stuff up, recovery was very short (two weeks).

Which brings us to the present contest prep: At the beginning of 2018 I was weighing about 210lbs, on 10mg/day TRT, and eating 4 meals per day. I was 16 weeks out from the contest at this point when I decided I was doing it.

This time I wanted to do it differently, I always did everything in my prep myself, I thought bodybuilding was an individual sport. It not, it's a team sport. It was at this point that I made one of the best decisions of my bodybuilding life: I decided to hire Shelby Starnes to help me with my contest prep. We started about 15 and a half weeks out and it's not easy but I'll show you guys these pics:

This is 4 weeks out currently, super flat but Shelby is growing me into the show perfectly I feel. I am the exact same bodyweight as when I first contacted Shelby.

I'm sure everyone on PM is very interested in the pharmacology so lets get down to business: I started on 10mg/day TRT, at 15 weeks out I bumped it to 40mg/day and 25mg winny, I dropped the winny after three weeks so I could take a month off and start it again at 6 weeks out. Test went up slightly and tren plus masteron came in at 8 weeks out. The goal is to max out at about 1 gram of everything combined total per week. Ancillaries are aromasin and finasteride.

I'd like to give a shout out to Monster Labs for their quality tren and mast, also using some of their test combined with prescription test.

Nice bro. I'm curious, what happened to your right bicep? Seems funky. Good luck with the prep, I'll be trying to follow and learn. You are one of those guys that I lool forward to reading your posts because I always learn something.

Thank you! I detached the right biceps tendon at the elbow when I was 35, while moving a couch... It was repaired but after 3 months and the muscle was permanently shorted a bit. I still got my arms over 20" after the injury :) Pic is from 2010 when I was 240+

That is pumped of course, no one has ever measured their arms cold. ever.

Ok, let's add some diet info in here.

At 15 weeks out Shelby started me at 4000 calories total, I hadn't been eating like a bodybuilder and putting down this many calories was hard. Macros were about 350g protein, 300g carbs, 150g fat.

At 4 weeks out I'm at 2800 calories, 312g protein, 50g carbs, 125g fat.

Cardio started at 25minutes first thing in the morning, it is now 60 minutes fasted AM cardio.

First I knew I needed a wizard, these are the real damage dealers, this is why I contacted Shelby and hired him. I don't have to worry about anything but dieting my ass off and training, all the anxiety over all the details of how to adjust the program are in his capable hands. I've known Shelby for a while and know his knowledge is deep, I've always trusted Shelby because I've seen so many of his clients, but it wasn't until about 10 weeks out that I felt the real magic: This guy wants you to be your best as bad as you do, now that inspires trust, he'll make you suffer more than you want to because he knows that is what it takes and he wants you to be your best. Awesome.

Healers!
You need good healers at level 45, I found a great Physical Therapist to help me with so many tinny nagging issues and a few big issues. Tami is absolutely amazing at what she does. It's not only helping me with my injuries, it's helping me balance my physique. Then there is my orthopedic surgeon, Dr. King, this guy did a great job on my left shoulder a year ago and I'll be having him work on my right shoulder after the show (more floating body removal, labrum cleanup, two-week recovery!). I have never trusted a surgeon as much as this one. I also have a great doctor who monitors my bloodwork and takes care of any minor medical needs. Finally, I have a physiatrist, doing PRP and Prolotherapy to help keep my battle worn tendons going. This is in addition to an hour of physical therapy I do 3 times per week on my own and have for the last year.

Monster Labs products have proven good quality over the last couple years, I'm really happy with their oils and orals that I've tried. Great people running this company too, I've been impressed with every order. Their oils are smooth, potent, and clean.

Oh, I forgot to mention the 3iu/day of GH that is part of my program. I started on some Ansomone due to some good reviews I saw posted on PM, seems effective, toes are going to sleep while on the recumbent bike... In about two more days I'll do my last two weeks of GH with Somastim from Sciroxx Labs and I'll be using Somastim after the show for my surgery recovery. I'll be getting bloodwork done on the Somastim after the show also. Great props to Sciroxx for his customer service as speed! Also a shout out to Sciroxx for their clen, I ran out of Monster clen and had to switch to a liquid clen for about a week. When the Sciroxx clen showed up it was noticeably stronger at the same dose, and just as good as Monster clen (both are fantastic).

Awesome posr Kal! Sounds like you really got everything you need on your side and ready to go. you are in great hands with shelby and everything else you mentioned. Its great that you have your wife living the lifestyle also. You truly have it going on man.

I train everything once per week, I'm usually in the gym 5 days a week, but lately have being doing 4. The goal on my training is to go "all out" on at least one set with as little weight as I can possibly make feel heavy to me, after thoroughly warming up. On my last excercises for each bodypart I might go for pump/stretch and superset/drop set, etc.
