Lifting okay if you can't rebuild your muscle?

Hypothetically, if I was going to workout in the afternoon but couldn't eat any protein until sometime the next day, would it have been better to have just skipped the workout? After working out, you need protein to rebuild the muscles you've destroyed, but what if there's no protein to use--would working out actually be counterproductive? Explain your reasoning.

Is this going to be an ongoing scenario or a one off?? The answers would be different in both cases. If it's a one off I would train and get on with it. Your body will not mysteriously devour all of your muscle o/nite! Once you get the protein into you it will go to work at replenishing your supply of aminos. I may be wrong here but I believe our bodies will have a small pool of aminos tucked away for just such an occurance. So in the absence of protein for a short (hours not days) time it will compensate and use your savings account.
