Hello
This year has been the worst. In feb I got sepsis and spread down my arm to my hand.Ended up hospitalized 6 months three in coma. They ended up amputating 3 fingers and my other two a crunches inward due to the scar tissue and immobility.
So I went from 248 to 178 after all this.I’m getting motivated to hit the iron again, however I need some type of hook so I can pull.I’ve searched everywhere for one that can help but all of them require some kind of grip.If anyone has any suggestions it would be appreciated.

Shit man! Im sorry to hear this. That’s devastating. But going back at it shows you won’t let anything get in your way. That’s awesome right there!
Not sure if these are what your talking about but google power hooks for dumbbells. I think these could hook onto a cable so you can pull.

Sorry to hear that man. Lifting with a disability is def more challenging. Ive had 5 surgeries on my one leg and have permanent nerve damage, and my ankle is in a fixed position all because of my peroneal nerve.
in the past i have used wrist straps that actually had 2 hooks on them. They worked great for almost every exercise. Also they keep you from cheating as much because the majority of the weight is on the hooks. Im sorry i cant remember what they were called, thank god for google.

Thanks bro it was devastating. But I have to keep going and lifting has been a part of my life over 25 years.I saw those I need one that I can wrap on my wrist with a hook resting on my palm. The ones I have found need a grip.I saw a guy on Instagram cris ruden who uses a hook(he has only two fingers)deadlifting around 600!I messaged him asking about the hook but never got a reply.

Sorry to hear that brotha. It’s motivating hearing your story and keeping on!Im looking for a hook that can hold the weight as I can’t grip with my right hand.Thank you.

I would try to find someone crafty that can make you something specific to fit your wrist. Someone whos good at working with metals and welding. Maybe post an ad on Craigslist or something, idk.

Congrats on not letting it get in your way bro. I know the feeling of wanting to continue lifting no matter what.

Btw, what was it like waking up from a coma after three months? Were you like, wtf?! And how did you get sepsis?

I'll work with patients with amputated limbs from time to time. The places that make the prosthetic limbs do a lot of customizing and there is an art to it. I would look up local places that do this that are around you and ask for suggestions. I also do not see anything wrong with some how modifying the existing grip style with some sort of latch or tether to suit your needs. I would think velcro has a pound rating and as long the device was made to specs above and beyond the poundage you would use in the gym it would hold.

Really sorry to hear you went through all that! If you don't mind me asking, how did you get sepsis?

Stay the course and I'm sure you'll get back to where you were or close to it!! Best of luck!

I have something similar from a company named Red Oxx. Unfortunate they do not make them anymore but the ones below are pretty similar. I have had them for 15+ years and they don't really require any "grip" per se. They can be used thumbless if needed. The pressure is on wrists.

I also have a Spud strap with a heavy duty carabiner on the end that I had a the local leather shop sew on there. Just put it on your wrist like a lifting strap hook and hook the carabiner on a bar or machine for back work- no grip required.

Not sure.I went into the er cause my lip was swollen.Last thing I remember I woke up 3 months later missing three fingers and a huge scar from my shoulder to my hand. They did a skin graph too.I was on try at the moment only pinning glutes with prescription test. They never found out the root cause bro.

Would something of this design work? I see several brands that all look similar. It looks like its mostly the hand that keeps the hook pressed around the bar, not sure how much you need the fingers applying pressure. It might work? Do you still have your thumb? I hope so.

Wow, scary shit. It couldnt have been your injection since you werent injecting in your shoulder/arm. Thats crazy that you never figured out what caused it. I came close to having that happen when I had a bad injection in my glute. Luckily I finally went in for help and eventually had it cut out.

Man I went in February and I woke up to a new world(COVID)felt like the first episode of the walking dead lol.I’m glad you were able to get your infection cleared up.That was always my biggest fear when blasting on ugl gear, and to my luck I got it from something else.
