Im going to tell you all. As clean as I eat and as fit as I am you cant beat genetics.

Heart disease runs in the family and with my brothers recent death(non heart related) Ive been doing all of my checks.

I feel good, I feel healthy. Im strong and cardio is great. I eat 80-90% healthy food. Havent drank or smoked in over 27 years.

Yet I came back with a 692 calcium score which puts me at 10x the risk for a heart attack. NOT GOOD

Will see whats next but remember to get your checks! Had I done this 5 years ago I probably wouldnt be this far along with deposits and could have started getting help then.

I dont want apologies or sorry to hears... just take what I found out and make sure you dont follow suit.

How old are u op? I need to tell my DR I need one and hopefully I don't have to jump through hoops to get one.

I think genetics plays a huge factor too.

Boy do I have nothing to complain about. At age 60 my score was 0. At seventy it was 7. I told the doctor I was pissed at the score (+7) and he just shoot his head in disbelief.

I have no idea why mine is low. I don’t do anything special.

RadiologyAssist
I get a yearly torso and lung CT for about $180-$220 cash.
You can pick whatever imaging you want to get and they'll find surrounding imaging centers, do online "consult" for the referral and sned results to you with detailed read.

Was this CT scan or CT + angiogram?

Im 51... my dad had a quintuple bypass in his 40s bit was a smoker. Ive lived a healthy lifestyle with no drugs(OTHER THAN PEDS), dont drink and eat clean.

I just asked for one and my doc ordered it. It was $150 and insurance wont cover it.

This was just a ct... next step is cardio doc.

You shouldn’t have to. Insurance doesn’t cover it. You pay out of pocket.

I got my first one last year. I think I paid $50

@traininsane11 you should get this considering your other thread.

My calcium score with a CT was about 620 on an angiogram it was 510 a few months earlier. For decades i have had healthy diet, aerobics, low cholesterol, BP, glucose, good apoB, Lipo(a) etc. Last cardiologist thought statins wouldn't help me any as i was already where they would shoot for. He said i was unlucky, i replied modern science does not have a full understanding yet. He didn't disagree. What ever is driving my level's is not the usual suspects. There is only trying to modify things that are already good to make them better and hoping it helps. I sort of regret getting the test done. Not that i recommend others don't get it. But info that i can't do much with is not a great help.

You can do things - taking a statin will help solidify ur current plaque by driving the LDL fat particle out of the plaque leaving it more calcified and much less likely to rupture - driving ur LDL under forty will stop the progression of the disease - a lot of cardio can widen ur arteries making them more pliable if a lesion was restricting flow - lowering inflammation also can help arteries and aid in slowing plaque growth - ur approaching things like u have heart disease when ur heart is probably fine - u have a plumbing problem is a better way to approach it - if u haven’t had a nuclear stress test u should get one - it will definitively tell you if ur heart is getting adequate blood flow - everyone dies with some level of blockage if they live long enough - you just want to make sure that blockage is not significant enough to restrict blood flow enough to cause a heart attack or let a piece of the blockage rupture and travel to a more narrow artery

It would be nice if they could just flush all the plaque out of one point and seal u back up

Many are confused by these. Not a "be all end all" Many with a "zero" die from the soft plaque anyways.
Many with high calcium scores, have zero blockages. (Go for a stress echo or nuclear stress test).
Lots of little "dots" of calcium, add up to your total score. If you have one giant-chunk, yeah, that's a problem.

People put way too much into that score, its the follow up tests that tell you where you are.
It does not measure soft-plaque, which is the killer...
