Liver enzymes continue to be high long term?

My liver enzymes are high every doc visit since last Oct. The doc is getting a little worried. What can cause these to be elevated? Mine aren't supper high, but above normal.

I am on TRY at 300mg Cyp and nothing else. I don't drink or smoke. 20% BY at 235 5ft 9. 41 years old.

Protein is 300 day, carbs are 200 and 90 fat.

I do take vitamins and energy drinks. Should I be worried of cancer or anything related to Liver or Pancreas? The doc mentioned those things.

Blood test are normal as well. Should I be worried of years of working out?

What are your values..

Yeah brother we need values, norms as reference range.
Also need to know your medication/supplement/drug intake. All these factors will affect liver enzymes

Take live 52 (in the states it's called livercare by Himalaya) and also take some NAC and watch your values get WAY BETTER

Yea values would be good to know. Generally speaking, high (slightly out of range) values are not of high concern, but of course always better to be in range. Really the big concerns are when the values are ~1.5x to 2x the reference range.

Naturally our enzymes will be a bit higher due to training, which is basically breaking down the body tissue which all needs to be processed by the body. For supplementation, a good place to start is NAC starting at 1000-1200mg a day, which I would consider a mild maintenance option. Beyond that the best option may be Tudca, starting at 500mg a day. Both are readily available in capsule or powder form, but definitely go with capsules due to taste.

When I get in a little later I will post them here. Can't remember exact numbers.

Thanks for the help.

Are you using any preworkouts? My liver values were hovering around 60 until I cut out all preworkouts and switched to coffee

Do you train/do high intensity activities around the time (1-3 days) you get bloods?

my liver enzymes are always at 1,5-2 times normal just from hard training alone..( which is not a concern...)
keep in mind that in order to see them drop at least 2-3 weeks must go buy AFTER you stop any kind of physical activity..
-have you done a CT scan? maybe you have some fatty tissue built up in your liver..( non alchocholic fatty liver) in which case a few months of TUDCA-choline-inositol-methionine -high fish oil-droping wheight-cardio should fix the problem..
-hope not to be to any ORALS-pain killers-high dose niacin-high dose ECGC-carnicia gambozia
-have you done any blood work for hepatitis?

How would that effect the liver?

they aren't exactly the most natural synthetic free products, your liver has to process all that crap.

There are tons of threads of teens and younger guys freaking out over high liver enzymes from preworkout drinks on another popular bodybuilding website, just google "pre workout liver values"

Start taking 2-3g of Betaine (TMG) twice per day along with 600-1000mg of NAC twice per day. Then go back and get bloodwork done in 6 months and see how your levels are then.

"The donation of methyl groups by betaine is very important to proper liver function, cellular replication, and detoxification reactions. Betaine also plays a role in the manufacture of carnitine and serves to protect the kidneys from damage."

"N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is a small protein with over 40 years of scientific research to back up its clinical effectiveness. NAC’s powerful health benefits derive from its ability to restore intracellular levels of glutathione. Glutathione is a very important compound because it’s your body’s own powerful antioxidant and detoxifier. Glutathione helps your liver to protect you against toxicity, and it is most needed by people with an inflamed liver or fatty liver. Chronic liver inflammation depletes your body of glutathione, and in fact so do many different diseases."

I had a similar situation of elevated enzymes, luckily my doctor is clued on has an understanding of those who train regularly and listens to my thoughts as to why the enzymes are elevated (exercised 3 days in a row prior to test) and he has no major concerns as to my levels being elevated.

However just to cover all bases, and to rule out fatty liver disease, he sent me for an ultrasound and for some more bloods.

Liver and gall bladder ultrasound is perfectly healthy, no signs of fatty liver or any signs of liver damage.

However just to be sure, I've ordered Choline, Inositol and methiolinine and plan on taking 3000mg:3000mg:1500mg daily and will get rechecked in a months time. Also taking NAC @ 1.5-2g per day.

Cover all bases, Health supplements and additional tests aren't expensive.

- take ursofalk
- go on a low carb low fat low protein diet
- no junkfood no alcohol
- eat loads of fruit and lots of water
- 1 hour high intensity cardio a day
- stop the hrt for a couple weeks

What is your AST and ALT or your SGOT and SGPT. TUDCA kept mine normal while having personal problems and drinking too much. Currently 3000mg 0f TMG.

Hey guys I was finally able to get my liver enzymes. The only one that has been out of range every time is ALT. The AST is always normal. ALT below...

66. (Oct) 2016
(Feb ) 2017 it was 62
3 weeks ago it was 67.

Getting it checked again next week.

Honestly it's not far out of range as I think the range is up to 49 I believe.

I do not work out the day before and also stop vitamins 2 days before. Although I thought protein and supplements affected more kidney function vs Liver Enzymes. Either way I take precaution.

Also I don't drink but maybe once a month and it's a drink or two. I will take Alieve maybe once every month or so from a headache. Nothing else.

My Dr. Just says the concern is they aren't ever in normal range. Had a CAT back in Oct. and fatty liver was ruled out.
Dr. Is thinking of sending me to a GI specialist if they are still high again. Not sure what that would relate too.

BTW- really appreciate the help and support to everyone in this thread. Thank you for the advice and help. I am going today and getting some of the above supplements for liver support to see if it helps.

I wouldn't be worried if you were my patient. Not sure why your dr says liver cancer is a concern..

Be ready for diarrhea with 3k of choline and inositol. Dropping it to 2 k , no problem with that. Or you could take extra calcium to stop the diarrhea.

I wish I had your numbers!! My values have always been elevated and had the whole ultrasound route done and everything looked just fine.

From my understanding, the reference ranges 30 years ago were in the 70-80's and then they dropped it to the 60's and now even lower. The purpose for this was Doctors were missing too many Hepatitis B infections so dropping the reference range has been able to pick the Hep B infections up easier.

Makes me feel better on the liver cancer piece. Liver and pancreatic were the mentions.

Only reason I can think is cancer does run in the family, but it's renel-cel not liver or pancreatic.

Dad, sister have both had a type of cancer. Had a cousin die last year at 44 from adrenal cancer. The cancer talk is a little scary.

The diarrhea doesn't sound great. Might start at half the dose and work up then.
