Long-term CPAP Intolerance Issue

I love my cpap and can’t imagine sleeping without it. Not only did it resolve my snoring issue but I actually grew quite a bit as well due to finally recovering fully. I have the resmed airsense and their travel mini. Started with just the nose pillow which sucked, as I knew it would, but they insisted to start with that. Immediately went to a full face mask and had no problem adjusting to it. Only issue is the memory foam eventually wears out and it’ll start to leak, causing you to synch the head straps tighter but pretty minor gripe.

Dude try the arifit F20. Full face mask with no memory foam. To me - the seal is way better, the mask lasts for months, and is washable. Recently tried the foam version and I was not a fan. The F20 works great assuming you dont have much facial hear.

I loved getting my 8 hours with it too man, miss that shit. I dont "feel" like im losing out on sleep (wake up feeling resdy to go), but def not sleeping as much as I used to.

I’ll look into it! I think that’s the same exact one I have, minus the memory foam. But with facial hair, they recommended the memory foam one. Maybe the other will work just as good. Dude I blow through them every 3-4 weeks $$$

Also another one I would recommend that is a full face mask but a lot smaller profile (since you have facial hair): Evora Full Unfortunately it requires its own headgear. A lot more comfortable but I have a deviated septum and some nights I struggle with it when I try to breathe through my nose so I stick with F20

I used to randomly pull off my CPAP in my sleep when I first started. I wasn’t consciously aware that I’d be removing my mask. I’d just get an elbow from the wife yelling at me to put my fuckin mask back on.

Eventually I stopped doing it.

Now, there was times I’d wake up and remove it to use the bathroom (consciously). But, before I’d physically get up, I’d end up drifting back off and start snoring because I didn’t have the mask on. The wife would bust my ribs then I’d get up and take a quick piss.

Just a thought, maybe get a camera and film yourself at night in bed. See what exactly is happening ya know. Is the hose tangling up and causing you to paw at it? Is it simply you being on your back is causing the issue? Maybe that will give you a direction or insight. Just something I’d try personally!

I like that Evora mask a lot better.. I wonder if it would work with the Resmed tubing though. I had a deviated septum too (got it fixed a couple years ago), so the nose ones were no go for me. Highly recommend the nasal surgery though. I have to remind myself that I’m able to breathe through my nose now.. ha!

Yes, the evora works with the Resmed tubing. They provide like a 12" long thinner tube that has an adapter connecting to standard resmed tubing.

Got it all set up today... time to split some hairs lol. This was just a 1 minute test run to make sure I can actually do this.

Same, not sure I like that idea either. Especially how well I tolerate a cpap. Not worth it for me. It’s still so new too.

This below is what I get along with the best, I sleep on my side or face down.
I don't get tangled in the hose and its low profile doesn't lose a seal or get brushed off
when I roll under face down from left to right.
I did find I needed to increase the pressure from 10 to 14 when swapping to this mask.

I have the resmed airsense 11 with the airfit f20 since 2 weeks now. Got used to it quite quickly but the pressure still needs to be fixed. It’s adjusting each night still between 6-12, and it always ends up at 12. The first week it was between 5-10 and I had less airleakage when sleeping on my side. I always fall asleep on my back and during the night move on both sides, but wake up a few times now because the mask is moving and air is leaking which annoys me a lot. Having the mask tighter left me with sore spots on my face . But this week I should receive a call of the sleeping facility as they monitor remotely and adjust if needed. But I could also try a bigger size mask, as I have size M right now.

Overall I have to say that my sleep quality is much better despite waking up a few times for a few sec. My AHI went from 36 without the cpap to 3-5 with the cpap.

Update: issue has been resolved! After running data analysis on past few night I noticed a trend: whenever bottom end of pressure spectrum dropped below 8, I would pull mask off. Set a new range of 9-15 and hit a solid 6 hours with it last night (as opposed to the usual 30-45 min.

I have the Airsense 11 as well as their mini for travel. I would have issues until I went to the setting and turned of auto.
I would wake up with the pressure way too high based on whatever just happened in my sleep. I set it to ramp up to 8 and stay there.

Oh nice! So are you saying you switched from Apap mode tonoutright CPAP - just a solid, static pressure level of 8?

Yes, sometimes I would wake up because it felt like I was suffocating, I'd take the nasal pillows off my face and is sounded like a compressor. Looked at the machine and it was at 20. For some people that may be ok but with my general setting at 8 I couldn't breath out.

Right on! Adjusting the ERP setting helps too for exhalation. Sometimes its off, or set on only during ramp-up period

I am a newbie.....not sure if it has been mentioned but with the Resmed units, I have an 11, you can put in an SD card. Then download a program called OSCAR. Yank the SD put in puter and you get all sorts of crazy ass charts to help determine what is going right/wrong etc.

It is light years better than the resmed Myair summary
