Long term prednisone

I am in the process of looking into various biologics but I'm quite pleased with the results of just 10mg prednisone per day. Thanks for all the great input guys!

I agree with Type IIx look into a biologic. I've used Humira and now I use Cocentyx for Ankylosing Spondylitis which is autoimmune/arthritis disease. Staying on prednisone while taking all that Ibuprofen will eventually take a major toll on your health! Look into it and see what your Rheumatologist says. I'm assuming you're seeing a Rheumatologist for this?

I'm in my 60s been lifting since I was 13 a few years ago I found out I have have rheumatoid arthritis which equates to joint pain, stiff muscles and fatigue. I have tried everything over the last 3 years turmeric/curcumin, Bromelaine, otc painkillers, prescription pain killers etc... but nothing really helps 😕
I came across an article about low dose prednisone like 10mg per day so I tried it and the results were good really good!
My question is have any of you guys used prednisone for any length of time like months or years?
Typically it's higher doses for only 10 days and it was very effective.

it is not ideal, but better than the amount of NSAIDs you are taking. Do you have insurance? If it is truly Rheumatoid arthritis, there are other drug options that are safer than prednisone that your RHEUMATOLOGIST can trial. You may need to be continued on prednsione until they find the right drug but once they find it, they can taper.

Also are you sure it is Rheumatoid Arthritis. It is not a common disease to come on in a 60 year old male. Hope you are seeing a GOOD rheumatologist. Polymyalgia rheumatica is usally more common in wihch case low dose predinsone is the main treatment.

No we are not certain it is rheumatoid arthritis. I have not seen a rheumatologist I was diagnosed by my regular doctor.
And to clarify I am no longer using acetaminophen, ibuprofen or the meloxicam. I'm almost pain free on just the 10mg prednisone per day.
The severe fatigue is gone also. This is the best I have felt in 3 years!
And I'm surprised no one has asked about my PEDs
So I'll throw that into the equation because I'm not sure if it's detrimental or advantages to the situation 🤔

I first tried prednisone 40mg along with azithromycin per day for 4 days in January when I caught a cold.
The following week I was pain free. Hadn't felt that good in years. Now I take 10mg on MWF. I'm not as pain free as taking 40mg but it's a big improvement.
I've stopped taking naproxen. I don't take ibuprofen. A fellow olympic lifter I know who was in his 60s at the time told me he had to stop taking ibuprofen because he passed a pint of blood. Not a good thing.

Like others have said, Prednisone is an amazing drug for aches and pains
and it's anti inflammatory properties. But it is not without it's side effects,
short and long term.

I have taken it many times (SSHL) but in high therapeutic dosages and
for a short, 2 - 3 week period of time. My Uncle regularly travels to Mexico
for his meds and he always gets prednisone. Says it make him feel great
at a low dosage. A dear friend of mine was on it for years because of an
eye hemorrhage and she doubled her bodyweight because of it and
when she quit cold turkey, she shed all the weight almost over night.

My gut bloated up (never before or since) and anxiety and sleeplessness
that was world class. But I had zero aches and pains.

Long term low does I would really do my homework. It is not a drug to
be taken lightly. It is a miracle drug for its intended usage but outside the
box, buyer beware. I would get a good blood test before embarking on a
every days low dosage regime. Just my opinion.

Yep, and due to the edema it can spike blood pressure , as well. Raises glucose levels too

Maybe be beneficial in low doses if your somehow deficient in cortisol. This is rare, though
