Anyone has problems with discs?

I am using light - moderate doses for the last 10 years and I have severe continuous pain in disks. Not tolerable.

I go to doc he looks at me and says your body is not natural tell me what u take.

He told me that in the short and medium run anabolics make body (and disks) stronger but in the LONG RUN it completely damanges disks (along with other things) and body colapses..

Is that true?

I have never read that in my research..

I'm sure long term lifting puts wear on the disks.

yes i understand that lifting puts wear on disks.

the doc said long term use of anabolics makes discs collapse.. this is what seems strange... is that true?

this doc said has experience in athletic teams that were very heavy anabolics users

I would be interested in how he came to that conclusion. So he worked with athletic teams that were heavy users?

How did he eliminate heavy lifting/athletic feats and narrow it down to just steroids?

There are a lot LOT of variables.

No, it's not true. Ask him what mechanism this occurs by? In other words, HOW does it degrade spinal disks?

Lifting teams also ride in bumpy buses sometimes. :) Like Lee said, to many variables. Nothing jumps out in google on this either but it doesn't mean it can't be true. My joints are better when I am on my TRT, and the spine is one long joint. I do have disc issues but it was from an injury when I was 18 so I cannot say over time, TRT has caused my disc issues. It is always a traumatic event to the disc that causes a flare up for me.

He is full of shit, tell him to show you some peer reviewed double blind studies... Not going to happen cause there are not any! Find another doctor!

There are many many different types of steroids OUT SIDE of the bodybuilding word. I am guessing he just lumped them all in one.

Im a chiro and see degenerative disc disease, herniated/bulging/protruding discs all the time......and none of these people were on aas.

Unless someone can show me a study, i think your MD is just trying to scare you. Heavy lifting and improper posture, muscle imbalances, and genetics are going to be harder on your discs than aas.

At least his doc didnt tell him the old BS that steroids shrink your weener! :D:D

thank you all for feedback

I will ask him the mechanism and studies in detail

Ask him to provide reference material that he used to come to this conclusion.

You won't find studies. Academia won't touch research involving AAS with a 10 foot pole. There is literally no funding for such and endeavor, and sadly 99% of research is governed by just that - funding. I'm surprised there is even the small amount out there that currently exists. And yes, for the most part he's full of shit. The only thing I could see even remotely affected would be the AF, and that's pushing it. Definitely call him on his bullshit, sounds more like he's trying to scare you than anything.

well, there is the fact that sometimes while on AAs, our muscles out perform our joints and ligaments, in other words you are capable to move heavier weight because your muscles are fuller, but your ligaments and joints are not any stronger, and that eventually will take its toll, I learned that the hard way, had some bad injuries over the years, and that's why I recommend even the younger guys to be cautious about the amount of weight they move at the gym, don't go all out every time, it'll pay off in the long run. As for steroids directly damaging your discs is nonsense. God bless you all. The Minister.

NO, but i wish they would. I could afford to cut back a little on the ruler! :D

LOL!!! If they really don't shrink your weiner I am gonna have to figure out a new excuse, before my wife reads this;)

you would be surprised how many doctors lump all steroids (anabolic and corti) in one bunch.. long term use of cortisone ect can degrade tissue.. and some doctors dont differentiate between the two out of lack education on the subject..

Canseco

Canseco said steroids are the reason he went from a skinny kid to a baseball superstar and steroids cured his degeneritive disc disease and HGH made his weener grow. We can all hope I guess.
