long story short, yrs ago I damn near destroyed my lower back, had to stop doing squats and deadlifts for years, prolly about 8-9. i would do leg presses instead. Just started doing them again and man, my lower back pumps like crazy...

I'm going to keep them in my training again for the next few months to see if it works out, but what do the other guys here do with lower back issues? I really missed doing deadlifts as I used to be pretty strong with them, now the old lady with arthritis out deadlifts me and calls me a punk and makes me rerack her weight when she's done with it lol

JW

If my lower back is stiff or tight I rub some flexall 454 on it....It seems to stave off the pump for a little bit and lets me get my working sets in bfore I am sore for a whole week....lol....

What type of lower back problems are you having? Slipped disc, pinched nerve, muscle related, etc?

reply

|---[\\\\\]>----------- i used to get serious lower back pumps so bad i couldnt cont. workout. it would cramp up so bad even squatting 2 plates...but i started doing 'good mornings' and my lowerback pumps have since gone away.

Like BBA, I do good mornings and or Hyper extensions prior to squats. It tensions the muscle before you lift. I also use them if I have a sore lower back. They work great.

Wouldnt this be putting even more blood into the area? Wouldnt regular hypers be better because blood is leaving the area? Am I incorrect here? It seems reverese hypers would make it worse

Introduce them back in one at a time so your back gets more rest per week, keep it light! (goes without saying)

For me doing stiff legged deadlifts has helped a bit. You can also take a workout off from doing squats everyonce in awhile if it is really sore. Do things like the leg presses or hacks to replace it. When I was doing regular deadlifts I would only do them every other week, that helped out.

its a herniated disc.. i havent had any *real* problems with it in awhile now, and I would like to keep it that way lol

i'll give a few of the suggestions a try, thanks fellas.

stabalizing

it's not about the pump but more a matter of stabalizing the the lower spine.

that's a serious, tricky one. proceed cautiously.

I'm glad I saw this thread,I almost forgot my straps, again.

Stretch your hamstrings

When you hamstrings get tight it makes your make super tight as it has to compensate for the hams. I had a back operation and nothing has helped my back more than stretching, drinking plenty of water and proper form.

I kept doing that too.. now I have 4 pair.. one stays in my gym bag with my belt.. one I leave at work.. one stays in my car... one at home..

:D
