What do you guys do to work out your lower back. I can't seem to find the right movement to get a good pump.

me...nothing. but deads, rack pulls, good mornings and lying extensions(machine where ur lying on stomach with legs tucked into pads) and lean forward then back up til torso is parallel with floor

Not everybody is able to deadlift but this exercise will build good if not great spinal erectors.....

^^^^is what i meant lol. thanks tom

I'd also add cable pull throughs...

with all due respect that movement is a waist of time which provides very little stimulus to your erectors, if you want a dense well developed lower back dead lifting is the way you need to go ( hyper extensions are alright but second to dead lifting) The movement in the video is a dead lift but the tension isnt great. I think people shy away from deadlifting because it is a hard movement to master in form. You cannot just watch a video and figure out how to deadlift it takes attention to detail in a lot of ways. A guy who dead lifts will have better erectors, traps etc 9 times out of 10 compared to a guy who doesnt

I never said this was the be all and end all...I said "add" meaning in addition to the other exercises already suggest. It is just another exercise to hit the lower back. Some people feel it, some don't. Hit your deads and rack deads and then add in something extra that targets the lower back to help bring it up.

reverse hyper, hyper extension and Romain dead-lifts

Louie Simmons doesn't think it's a waste of time and I'd say he knows a thin or two about training

the way I see it is if you are dead lifting on a consistent basis adding something like a pull through will do close to nothing. Unless you've been dead lifting for a long period of time and still have weak erectors I would either work on form or add something like a hyper extension or rack pull. i know a lot of times you have to be smart with where you distribute your effort and energy towards and your spinal erectors dont need much volume at all, I wouldn't want to hinder my leg training by putting tons of volume on to my low back.

Deadlifts, stiff leg deads/romanian deads are gonna be the staples. Hyperextenstions and reverse hypers are good go too's if you cannot do any type of deads.
