Lowering high cholesterol.

What are the disadvantages of taking Statins?

Oh - you know, death by some other method.

Why don't you look into getting the particle size test. Look into VAP and LPP tests.

I don't want to get on a statin but I've tried everything. This shit was sky high when I was late 20's even. As I said, it's genetic and runs in my family. Aside from the usual supplemental and dietary recommendations, and short of a statin, only thing else I haven't tried is a highly refined rx epa product and pharm grade niacin. If you get on a statin, you really should be monitored.

With our clients(non aas taking and sometimese obese or very large individuals) we have had great success of getting off statins with doc permission by a lot of what Knight already said but also taking all fruits out of the diet, limiting carbohydrates and taking tumeric with meals.

Statins are poison and you should do everything possible to not be on one.

devils advocate

In my opinion . . .

The detrimental effects of statins are absolutely nothing short of inconsequential when compared
and contrasted to what so called bodybuilders ingest and or inject into their bodies. This forum is littered
with questions (and few concrete answers except ‘backoff’) and concerns about the unwanted and real
side effects of AS, GH, insulin, etc., . . .

Unlike what I mentioned above (AS, GH, insulin, etc.) statins are one of the most studied (real studies,
not anecdotal) pharmaceuticals in the history of mankind. Clearly they work when nothing else does
and while they do get a bad rap, justified or not, think about what they doing to your body when
compared and contrasted to all the other UG products, other products you ‘take’ to counteract the
adverse side effects of what most are willing to modify their physique in the most unrealistic, dangerous,
unnecessary way possible.

You can find all the ‘studies’ you want to support the pros and cons of statins. So, do what you can with
diet and exercise but please keep in mind that once to add, throw in all the all the other stuff (again, see
above) you do, you are literally are in no-man’s land, uncharted waters and statins may be your only,
and in reality, may be your safest alternative if you chose to continue your current lifestyle, such as it is.

Just something to think about. Not trying to rain on anybody’s parade . . .

Cholesterol has always been an issue with me until recently. I've been in the high 2s for as long as I can remember. Running a low carbohydrate has made a big difference in my overall cholesterol an my physical appearance. I've also replaced all protein powders with eaa's and as I read above eat very little fruit blueberrys only. I also cook all my meals using turmeric soy sauce which is a little high in sodium but I can make it work. Statins didn't make any difference after a year of use so I don't use them anymore. So take that for what's it's worth. My cholesterol is now right under 200 and feel fantastic and look the best I may ever looked. My weight has dropped from 260 to 240 but almost all body fat was lost. So diet and additional cardio on non lifting days has been a game changer for me. Hope this helps.

U could look into zetia? Research it, it stops cholesterol in the intestines..... I have had high chol since 2007 or so, and tried citrus berg to no avail, i may try the niacin, but then again are reports of it being bad taken long term as well, ill talk to the doc about the rx fish oil and zetia before i ever take a statin

On another note my cardiologist tested me for calcium thru some damn machine and it came back as a 0 (zero) so he said not gonna put u on a statin....

But i still want to get the new particle tests done

Plant sterols also supposedly lower LDL cholesterol by working in the intestines to block the uptake.

Let's say you are right...which I'm not sure you are on all points..BUT the problem is doctor's getting kick backs and the entire pharmaceutical/writing prescriptions "machine". The real issue is doctor's trying to prescribe EVERYONE a damn statin when in reality, perhaps 5-10% of those they urge to get on actually need them. I'm plucking numbers from thin air...but you get the point. It's a complete mess the last decade(or more) trying to pass out statins like candy.

High cholesterol in itself means little. You need to look at HDL, triglycerides, and most importantly the profile of LDL. Without this info you (or your doctor) are trying to treat something that may not need treatment or, more likely, you are looking at the wrong methods.

The real damage (atherosclerosis) is due to the oxidation of LDL. A VAP test will help identify your profile of A vs B LDL. You should also look at tests that identify overall antioxidant health.

It is truly sad that so many doctors are still ignorant when it comes to total cholesterol or even total LDL. These values along are of little value. Granted if you're looking at 250+ LDL there is a good chance your lipid profile and overall health are not great. But this is still just an educated assumption without the correct tests.

take it for what you will but I am pretty sure all of the people using res and curc for any real length of time have there cholesterol numbers in check.

the idea of clocking the uptake of cholesterol seems not good..

statins

What are the disadvantages of taking Statins?

My take. They work well. watch for stiffness, muscle fatigue, loss of strength.

Diet is key plain and simple. I eat lots of fish, chicken, lean beef, low carbs, fruit, oatmeal pretty much very clean with a cheats here n there. greens as well. try not to get food with hormones injected, cook with olive oil.

I only take 10mg of Zocor was on Lipitor but killed my body. I used to be in the mid 300's now 135-140 hdl 40-43 except gear will knick that down when your on. triglycerides play a role as well milk thistle works great mine were in the 500 range now 100's. Cardio is not just going to solve you need to work on your diet.

true, ive tried the cholesof (spelling) and some other plant based supp to no avail either, im just gonna have to go off blood work and hopefully get a doc who will actually do the items i request...

cholesterol

Well, i am really hesitant to post this and i know i will get flamed for it but over the years , i have researched many health issues .......and one being this cholesterol misconception.

I see it more and more ....
Many heart surgeons are coming out more and more and telling that cholesterol is not the thing that causes heart disease.
Its the inflammation that is the underlying problem. Chronic inflammation is caused by bacteria, viruses, dietary problems such as too much processed food as well as sugar ,refined flours ....

You can read more about it here.

Heart surgeon speaks out on what really causes heart disease -- Health & Wellness -- Sott.net

This is not the only reference i have of this. I have seen many other heart specialists bring this up as well.

Please keep an open mind and do some research.

Why would you get flamed? This isn't new information and many of us talk about it all the time.

Save your money and pay for these things you think are necessary. What is more important than your health? Being unhealthy is a lot more expensive.

That list looks kinda familiar in many ways lol. I always love the board discussions on health supps.
