LUNAR ECLIPSE

This occurred August 28 at approx. 8pm eastern australian time zone.

Taken from my backyard with a nikon d70 and 70-300zoom.

We saw this at about 4:30 in the AM.
Great shot BTW.
It's nice to know that as the world seems so big and impersonal,
there are some things we all share...

Here is one taken about five minutes after the first one above

Taken with a Nikon D70 with 70-300zoom
Manual exposure with shutter wide open using a black card over the lens and removing it for about 2-3 seconds and replacing it. This avoids camera shake from shutter release.

Yes just a bit of fun. The first shot was done with the shutter release so there was just a bit of blur. But the second one was as I described. Set your camera for long exposure. Release the shutter with the card held over the lens but not touching. Once the shutter opens you pull the card out of the way and count for a slong as you want your exposure. Then before the shutter closes put the card back over the lens. Nice crisp sharp pics of the night sky, moon or what ever. I have done some work for some biker mags also!.

Woke up about 2:30am and saw it outside my bedroom window. Awesome! By the time I officially woke up at 5:00 there was still a bite out of the moon.

Beautiful pictures, I have been trying to take pictures of the moon with little success.

thats really cool Old...thanks for sharing. i was actually wanting to be an astronomer growing up. didnt go far with it, but basically loved everything about space and all. so a lunar is at night correct? when the moon is blocked? i was a sophmore in hs, i believe, when the solar ecllipse occured. it was right at lunch time i remember and it got VERY dark on a bright sunny day when it happened...it was so cool. the physics dept. made these viewing tools to look at the eclipse without actually staring at the sun...which burns urs eyes if you do so i guess...LOL....very cool pics.
