Luxury Cars

Love my escalade, but looking to trade it in and get those new Range Rover Sports.. Classy!

I actually like the lil moon buggy looking thing, thinks a called Evoque or something close.

Even if you get a good deal don't forget to counter in future service. I have Audi A8L and now kicking myself in the ass to be honest. Parts are expensive. It is a nice ride though. In the winter time it's like a tank.

i was gonna buy an A8L last year, until I found out the oil changes ran in the $600+ range. lol (have to remove a fender, headlight asbly, airbox, etc to change the oil filter)... forget that!

I went with a flagship Japanese luxury sedan instead (won't say what, due to the biz I'm in. lol)... I don't regret it one bit.

the main selling point in german luxury sedans (particularly Mercedes) is safety. I know person after person who've walked away from car accidents that killed the other driver or in which that person would've been killed had they not been in an S or E class Mercedes. for me, that's worth the premium, especially with the misses and kiddo's in the car.

one thing though, remember the saying "there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes".

I own 13 cars, so I can compare prices between brands.

A few months ago, my Ford sports sedan that I was use for shit kicking duties and my Bentley that is my daily driver, both had their 18,000miles services.

Ford was done at the Ford dealer with fixed cap servicing.
Bentley was done at the Bentley dealer.

I put the bills side by side and the work was IDENTICAL. It was as if they were photocopies.

The Ford bill was $290. The Bentley bill was $4,050! FOR EXACTLY THE SAME WORK!!! :banghead:

I've got a GTR that has been basically converted into a racecar. I very rarely drive it on the street. I mostly just trailer it to the track. I've been racing time trials for a few years now with NASA.

It is quite expensive to maintain. Every two/three races most fluids get flushed. The transmission alone is about $1200..

My daily driver is a POS though. I really want to get an E46 M3 for daily use, but I'm trying to remain responsible. I know if I get an M3, it will turn into another racecar. :devi:-smi

I had an Audi A6 4.2 Quattro. It was a great ride, monster in the snow. but it sucked the life out of my wallet on gas. repairs are expensive as shit too. My dad owns a repair shop, but i still pay him for the parts. The prices are absurd and have to come from Germany if you actually want the good stuff from the factory, and that can take weeks.

i now have a 2012 Infiniti G37X, not super high end luxury or anything. not one problem yet. and it is a beast in the snow and you need it up here in New England.

My favorite car that anybody in my family owned, was my fathers Escalade EXT. it was like cobalt blue, had all the windows tinted black and the windhsield also, nobody could see in at all. had the nice flowmaster exhaust system in it and was bulldog chipped. he'd go like 120 on the highway and it would feel like you were on a cloud. and it cam with a sick sound system in it.

I have a 2014 Stingray and love the car. Its my second car not a daily driver so for me I wanted something with style but also sporty and classy. What attracted me to this was I had previous vettes and just love the lines of the new stingray. It looks similar to a more exotic car like Ferrari not a typical american car. To be honest what set this aside from the other exotics is you can have the same power and handling of some 300k plus vehicles for the fraction of the cost and like big A said the service is reasonable for what your getting. For me it was a win win. plus if you work your ass off you want to have something nice to show for it. For me it is not so much the brand name but overall value and drive-ability/maintenance of the vehicle while having something that is not seen on the road as much as lower end cars.

I learned when you track a car, doing your own work is priceless, and you know its done right. But I'll still take the Daily into the shop.

It's hard to beat American Tupperware for value performance. The new rear diff is pretty nice. You miss out on quality of interior with it though.

On a car like that, it's definitely required to do a lot of the work on your own, but the computer is so advanced and proprietary, I can't access the resets through obd2. Also the gear oil is outrageously expensive.

Yeah, a guy that runs at the track I used to go to runs a Nistune standalone compuuter and orders his fluids.

The Nistune computers are great for the R34 and prior models, but to reset the monitors and change key parameters, it can only touch the tip of yhe iceberg on the R35s. I owned a shop for a while, and when I looked into getting the equipment, I would have to jump through too many hoops and spend WAY more money than was available.

Ah, so there isn't any decent standalone?

Most the cars I run/own aren't so technically advanced. I do light weight midengine stuff. Next car is going to be a 2zz swaped MR2 for the track.
I do love switching car and doing laps. The GTR is fun once you get used to the weight.

I've always loved those little MR2s. I drove a couple Exiges at the SCCA regional AutoX events. Those little cars are rippers! (Especially when they're wearing 305s.) So far, there aren't any standalone ECUs for the R35. The ECU is an integrated module, so a standalone would be quite difficult to develop without infringement on lots of patents.

Driving the GTR in comparison to my old Impreza RS (STi swapped) was surprisingly similar. It handles a bit like I would imagine a spaceship.. Even with the dummy modes in the 'off' position, the car is very easy to drive. Almost like it cares about the driver's safety.. Lol

I love the Lotus very true, they only need wider rubber and alignment... almost bought an Elise with a stroked and rotrexed motor. The guys got tapped in the rear before we finalize the sale. Car was totaled being aluminum and glue.

My first and second autocross and track cars were DSMs a Talon tsi then Galant vr4.
With that, the GTR is the nicest AWD I've driven. This includes the P cars. If i wasn't addicted to turn in I would seriously want one.

Haha well said. Turn-in on AWD isn't fantastic, but the oversteer and ease of correction offers quite a rewarding drive.

I agree with you, I have a 911 4s that is just a beautiful interior but really I have more fun driving the z51 stingray I have. I must admit they did step their game up a bit with the new interior.

I uploaded some pics of the interior but still does not beat some german interiors tho

True they have, my FIL is a vette nut. He always trades when the new generation comes out. My mind changed on the vette after the C6 came out. It's truly a drivers car now. I went with him to get the new stingray. Definitely impressive :)

Funny you say that. I beat my friends time in his GTR. My Fiat X19 handled better than most cars, but would punish you if you did something wrong. So getting in his car i could just bully it, nothing to correct, just needed to relearn how to set up an AWD in a turn.

Porsche

Get a Porsche. make sure it stands out. I have a Cayman S, white with awesome rims. Its car porn. If Im even a little down,, I drive ot and drop the hammer,,,man Im good again

I used to drive a AMG G55 Mercedes...holy shit what a powerful SUV uphill. Drive up a mountain without even feeling it.

But then a bought a business with a parking garage, it wouldn't fit so I sold it. Now I drive a very standard Lexus HS250h and it's a good solid sedan, drives nice, but nothing crazy.
