Anybody know what a typical training day is like in the Marines, Seals or Rangers?

I will be going to Marine OCS in about a month, and while in shape, I have no idea what a "normal" day consists...of

fit tv has alot of documentary type stuff about this, but I don't thinl it's typical. My buddies in the service and after basic he said it's kind off like any other job. Wake up and go run several miles, do you schooling if any and then onto work. But if your going into a specialized field I'm sure it would be entailed with alot more training at a higher degree of difficulty. All I can say is I don't know personally, sorry I'm not more help.

As a former US Marine do even try to guess or prepare for a day in the life of a Marine Corp Officer Canaidate. Just go there in shape and do your best every day. Trust me you will just be wasting time try to prepare for the daily basic things. Best of luck.

BUD/S

PM if you want info on it. Hardest time of my life, but also taught me alot. Not to be a dick, but chances are you won't make it. 98% attrition rate while I was there.

Class 222 beyoch!

THings are so random, that you will not have a repeat day when you are there. Like stated, just go in in shape and you should be fine.

Anything to add other than ...that...?

Brook, By the way, what is aaarough? No Recon guy I ever met said aarough. They say Hoo Rah, reason being is they were taught that it is the latin word for kill.

98%...whatever. Not true. Out of a platoon of 60 you might lose 10 at best from injury, poor pt test scorces, and people just quiting.

TT, while I appreciate your input, what BUD/S class were you in? I stated what I knew, and that is while I was there it was a 98% attrition rate.

Army Ranger

Class 09-00

I cant say much about Marine training being that I went thru Army Ranger school, but you from knowing some SEALS and having an Idea of what Buds is about you can not compare OCS (officer candidate school) with ANY tactical school. I went thru Ranger School with a few officers that had just graduated OCS and Infantry Officer Basic Course and those dudes were lost. You do not get trained on being a tactital killer at an officer school. You get taught how to act as an officer and how to PLAN for operations. I would defiently not sweat some officer school. I'm sure it will be more stressing as far as meeting time hacks and anal bullshit, than it being a physically demanding course.

And as far as attrition goes in my Class we started with around 290 dudes and about 45 graduated straight thru without having to recycle any phase. Reasons were PT test, failing patrols, Heat Casualties and the biggest one injury.

I dont think you can compare OCS to Ranger and/or Seal school. Thats like comparing apples to Watermelons...

OCS certainly isnt as physically demanding as the aforementioned schools, however you will have your fair share of PT...a nice chunk of it running and more running. As with anything in the military, its a big mind game as well. You cant really prepare to "hurry up and wait" but its something to get used to and not sweat (you will see what I mean soon enough).

The main thing is go in there and learn as much as you can about the Corps and carry on our tradition. Good luck..

Haze...arent most Boot-Tenants out OCS lost? :D ;)

this post wasnt about who is better or harder...just wanted to see what usmc ocs was in comparison...not implying it is comprable to ranger school etc...

just to get an idea of how tough it will be...

btw...any big lifters while in marines, seals, rangers?

OCS

Slide - yep OCS kids are like fucking privates.

Cal- no lifting whatsoever at any military school I've been too. Most schools whether they are physically demading schools or mental stress schools will take up all your time, thats how they stress you and break you down to a point. Now when you are done with any bullshit training then depending on what type of unit you end up at you will always find your big lifters.

Cardio is defientley alot more important in the miltary than lifting. And not just running fast, but being able to run with all your kit on for sustained period of time. Like they said above, you cant train to "hurry and wait", so go in some good cardio shape and prepare to be able to blow off the bullshit and just do as your told for a short period of time.

nah...bro...i didnt mean while at ocs... wts will be the last thing on my mind...i meant ppl entering it...etc...and ppl when ur in there...

I would say to do pullups, crunches, and run a few times a week. Your physical fitness test will consist of those three things. Mainly though, OCS is very mental as well as physical. I was in the Marines from 1994 to 1998. Although I was enlisted, the PFT is the same for all Marines. What is your job going to be? Good luck and Semper Fi!

Haze, I got to enjoy a fun vacation at Ranger School, Benning, north GA mountains and most delightful parts of wonderful Florida, a loooong time ago! Hate to say how long. All I can say it was your basic mofo. I seem to recall we had about a 70-80% washout rate, fairly similiar to what you recall. Also, I agree the biggest single cause was injury.

Cal - I was just a plain old-fashioned Army grunt, not an officer, so I can't tell you about Marine office candidate school (I think they still call the Marine version Platoon Leader Scool, don't they?)From what I hear (my dad went thru Army OCS and I think its pretty similiar) its more mind games and constantly running your ass off all day long - not so much as actual "running", although you'll do a lot of that - but making you gallop full tilt from one thing to another about 18+ hours a day, and trying to just wear you down. Just hang in there, don't let the BS get you, and you should do fine. It is a totally different thing from any of the "elite" schools, like Ranger, SF Q Course, Recon or Seals, like everybody else said. Definitely comparing apples and oranges to try to compare.
