You missed my point. If you're worried about what damage a punch might do to you, don't pose as a professional MMA fighter. If you can't take a punch or are worried how much they hurt , don't pose as a professional MMA fighter. No MMA school that I've ever attended (or heard of) teaches you to tap when you're receiving strikes. I'm not saying you shouldn't tap if getting choked or when caught in an armbar or other submission hold. But you DO NOT TAP due to strikes or because you're tired. That's just pathetic. AAMOF, I witnessed Sylvia get his forearm SNAPPED and was game to keep fighting. LOL! Herb Dean looked like he was gonna barf. Say what you will about him but he has heart and never quit. ¡No Más! Puh-lease.
Amen.
I actually don't think it was really even the strikes. He just got gassed and wouldn't take his beating. Makes me think of what Joe Frazier used to say..."I don't wanna knock a man out. I wanna rip his heart out, show it to him and make him know it ain't big enough. Then he mine."
I get so fucking tired of so many juice monkey's who go to a fight at a bar or whatev, and think they can go because they the biggest in the bar, or the strongest in the weight room. It's an insult to the work that fighters do and more than anything, it's an insult to the heart you show as a fighter and THAT is what makes you when skill is close to equal (which in this case, it wasn't even close). My coaches were old school (which, since I am getting old makes sense) but I never, ever forgot one of the 1st things they taught EVERYONE who walked through the doors of their boxing club: "Everyone is a good pitcher; not too many good catchers." (Sounds like the line for a fag porn but still...)
LM tell you something and this is what seperates true warriors...you are in the ring (or octagon or whatever) with your opponent...you have trained hard, you are confident, you feel f'ing great...and you hit him with a DAMN sweet shot that SHOULD do major damage. But the motherfucker looks at you and barely flinches...then, sometime later in the fight, whether its a few seconds or minutes later, asshole hits you with his good shot and you think you just had an experience with a baseball bat. And that is when we see if you are a "fighter" or not.
Last, its like Sylvia said...it's like him (Sylvia) trying to compete in strongman...a fighter is a fighter, and a strongman is a strongman. Period.
