I know a lot of pro bodybuilders get deep tissue massages. However I was wondering does anyone know of any massage chair devices that are any good? Even if they are expensive it would be nice to pay a one time fee and always have it rather then pay a massage therapist $100-$150 every time you need one. Plus you would be able to use more frequently.

I know it won't be as good as a person doing it but maybe a descent alternative?

Also how effective is it for muscle growth/recovery?

I don't think any amount of money is going to buy a piece of equipment comparable to a real deep tissue massage. I try to see my massage therapist as often as I can fit it into my budget, and it's worth every penny. Spend the money on some time with a knowledgeable person.

I agree with Flex, use the money to see an expert. If they are good, they are worth every penny.

Get active release done by a chiro.. My insurance covers most so I only pay 10 bucks each time. Makes such a difference.

ditch the chair

Find a sports massage therapist and form a good relationship, he/she can discount the fee per visits

Damn, mine charges $30 and she's good.:headbang:

Check out Thumper's Equine Pro percussive massager: **broken link removed** .

Get yourself a good anatomy book / charts. Read Tom Myer's book "Trains". Digest everything put out by StopChasingPain.Com

I've had a lot of ART - 200+ sessions over a 4 year period - and other deep tissue work (KMI), and honestly, the benefits of having the percussive massager at home, able to use it anytime, for as long as I want, far outweigh the benefits of paying somebody to do it for me. I've learned more about my body, about how things work, and actually solved some nagging issues that the ART guy could never figure out.

If you aren't foam rolling I would definitely give it a go. It really helps. Also I can almost always find deals for 25-40 dollars for hour long massages. As for a home chair I can't imagine it would be as good because it couldn't find those little knots, also if you have ever had a bad massage you know how one wrong tweak can screw you up. I do love the chairs at the nail shop though!
