Maximum Hemoglobin Accepted By Red Cross?

I get dysphagia from cialis. It's really painful and I always have to make sure a have water with me if I'm eating. If I discontinue cialis, it goes away in a few days. I dont really like taking omeprazole since studies show ppi's can lead to malnutrition, so I just try to limit my cialis use.

Wow, side I never heard of. Just shows you how everyone is different with reactions. That PPI I took gave me crippling cramps. That side isn't really even listed as a side in most literature.

It sure does hurt doesn't it, getting food caught. I was having it probably 2x a week or so for a long time. One night it happened and driving home from dinner with my family I had to pull over 2x and puke. Finally got it all out. The whole time I am thinking that if a cop comes by he is going to assume I am drunk out of my mind! Field sobriety test etc.

I have a really bad burping problem that could be dysphagia. I wonder if long term Cialis use caused it. Even stopping it for a while wouldn't make it go away. It's like the damage was done already. I can't say for sure if it was the Cialis but the burping up air thing and sometimes food gets worse as the day progresses.

You don't drink alcohol much do you? That's one of the triggers for me. If I have wine then the next day I am having some difficulties burping up air and swallowing food. Once the esophagus gets triggered and food is stuck, not even liquids will go down. It is as if there is a spasm in the walls and it closes off.

I do drink socially but it doesn't really seem to make it worse. I'm seeing a gastro again in a few weeks.

I donate religiously every 8 weeks. My numbers now are anywhere from 13.2 to 14.5.

Check your ferritin.. i did that for a year and my ferritin was less tnan 5... took forever to balance it back ..

How did you feel when your ferritin was that low? Did it make it difficult to do cardio and make you tired?

Stewie I was diagnosed with a large hiatal hernia (sliding) via a barium swallow a while back. Endoscopy later revealed Eosinophilic Esophagitis. Docs had me on Pantoprazole 40mg/daily ever since due to the risk of Barretts from GERD. My sigmoid is also riddled with diverticulosis...I'm a GI mess!

Which PPI is your opinion or other acid reducer has a much better risk/benefit ratio for someone like myself? I've read Pantoprazole long term can cause cognitive issues and lead to early dementia which I have a family history of.

This individual has collaborated a tremendous amount of citations that pose the *potential* detriments of PPI use. I didn't look at all the citations that is cited, although the ones I have looked at, correlate very well with repeated medical literature that I've read over the years. Nonetheless, it would be self-crowning on my behalf if I regurgitated what this individual has put together. No point in that.

As for your eosinophilic esophagitis, have you had any food allergy testing done? This it of itself is one of the primary causes of EoE. Several years ago I suffered through very similar ordeals. Especially with dysphagia, thought I was going to choke to death on several occasions!

I honestly have not had any if very minimal bouts of indigestion/acid reflux once I eliminated foods that I had sensitivities to and introduced a digestive enzyme with betaine HCL before every meal. I started a thread probably 6+ years ago about the food sensitivity testing I had done, along with the eliminations of the foods. Regardless, it's something to think about.

If you don't have a peptic ulcer, I'd look into using a good quality digestive enzyme with betaine HCL.

I felt nothing,no diference in doing cardio or lifting weights. My iron and everything else was fine and in range.
I told DR about donations and he said to stop and take ferrous sulfate twice a day. I did it for 8 months and it is at 55 now..

Fuck me!

Well there's another shit sandwich to swallow and to think I've been on this crap for years. Before taking it I had zero issues with asthma or GERD and it was only out of concern due to a newly diagnosed hiatal hernia. The impact of PPI's on the vagus and glossopharyngeal nerves are really concerning. Doc put me on Amlodipine about 5.5 years ago. Works great on my BP but I read it weakens LES lower esophageal spincter tone...and a few years ago I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. Correlation? These "medications" might be helping with one symptom but they're causing far greater damage in the long run!

stewie, I thank you!

I'm out to get some HCL + Pepsin, a multi strain probiotic, a jug of ACV (apple cider vinegar) and a big jar of sauerkraut in attempts to recolonize my gut with healthy flora.

ferrous sulphate works extremely well to raise my ferritin too. Do you think your hematocrit went up with it too? I'm having trouble determining whether fe sulphate raises everything along with my ferritin. Hard to say for sure.

If I take cialis daily 5mg without ppi, I'll experience it with about every meal, chicken being the worst. Yes, hurts like hell but I've never puked from it, came close but I always have water with me and I just force it down. Heartburn is a listed side effect of cialis. I get heart burn as is but without cialis, i dont need a ppi, pepcid complete does the trick.

The Pepcid is working great for me now, especially since Im not having alcohol anymore.

If I have food stuck and try to wash it down with a liquid, the liquid just ends up piling up on top of the food and makes it even worse. When it gets stuck bad I cant even swallow my own saliva. The saliva builds up and then I have to puke up a huge pile of saliva. It is really nasty.

For anyone taking or that has taken a PPI like omeprazole/prisolosec, did you notice any decrease in your hematocrit? There are some case studies on it causing iron deficiency, but I'm not sure how common or widespread it is. I might be stuck in the crappy situation of choosing between a PPI and having to deal with this awful burping sensation I've had for the rest of my life.

I am on PPI's for the last 3 years and just recently stopped due to low vit D, calcium and magnesium. I think PPI's are preventing absorbtion of vitamins and minerals.
Need to find something diferent to use now.

Also it didnt lower my HTC and HGB

Were you not supplementing with Vit D3 and magnesium or did they deplete despite the fact you were supplementing with them?

I was taking 5000 IU D vitamin only. My D level was at 30, whic is the low end of the range. ( 30 - 100). So even with 5000 IU a day it was low.
Was not supplementing with calcium and mag.

No decrease in hematocrit here.
Have you ever tried Beano for your gas?

No, I don't have any gas issues. Only burps stuck in my throat all day.

stewie, out of curiosity what food(s) do you have a sensitivity or allergy to?

Hey there, Reload. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.

The specific findings on the RAST IgE levels varied on a sliding scale from 0-5. Surprisingly most of the foods I had sensitivities to, were in the 4 range. Which is defined as 'Very high level of allergen-specific IgE". A few were in the 3 range. Which is considered a high level of allergen-specific IgE.

What's very bizarre. Several years ago when I had my first initial allergy testing done, a few of these foods I was on a lower scale of. Mainly in the 3 area. A few years ago I repeated the test after eliminating (for the most part) these from my diet. Obviously there's going to be trace amounts in unsuspecting foods. The tuna, halibut, strawberries and peanuts I completely eliminated after my first allergy assessment. Weirdly enough, the specificity went up with these.

They were:

IgE
2) pork

IgE
3) cane sugar

3) white rice

3) white potatoes

IgE
4) tuna

4) halibut

4) peanuts

4) strawberries

If I eat any of those, I'll get nasty phlegm in my throat, my sinuses will plug up and I'll be hacking with a raspy voice for several hours afterwards. And I'll start to get some indigestion.

It's something to consider looking into.
