I had a partial Meniscectomy(inside left) about 15 years ago , but have had discomfort with the afflicted area every since .

Has anyone ( or know of anyone) had a Meniscus replacement and if so how have you/they recovered.

Thanks

hey,
i had the same thing done along with a new acl and mcl thrown in the mix. although this only happened this past march. i know it wasn't that long ago, but i'm as good as new, if not better. they were gonna try to do it ortho but they had to go ahead and make a 9 inch incision.

That great !
I forgot to mention that Im 58 and in great health .
I'm sure at my age recovery should take a little longer.

What happent to cause you all that knee trouble ?

Thanks

knee

meniscus surgery is usually repaired arthroscopic and recovery is quick. think 6 weeks for meniscus vs 6 months for acl reconstruction. My advise would be to get it repaired so you dont have that injury in the back of your mind hindering you.

Yes, and he recovered in short order. He was back in the gym hobbling about four days later. Rest in mind he is one crazy sob, but it is not considered a major procedure these days. I need to go in and get my PCL done, and that is a much longer recovery. They can work wonders these days.

Are you guys talking replacement or repair ?
I've already had repair and I believe I need replacement.

i think they are referring to repair. I am unaware of meniscus replacement. You can try Synvix(sp) injections 1 a week for 5 weeks, it acts as a meniscus or cushion in the knee joint. It will also help with pain.

football caused my injury. we just started spring training and had a scrimmage and i made a tackle and landed wrong and it literally tore it up..
granted i'm only 25 so my recovery was quick.

Meniscus replacement is somewhat really not a practical procedure yet. I have had two meniscus surgeries and none left in one of my knees. Its not bothering me right now in my early 30's. Will see what happens in 10 yrs from now.

Meniscus cartilage replacement by allograft, prosthesis, and regeneration scaffold are current techniques being used and still IMO not really too successful as it is more experimental still in regards to mastering the techniques and the long term success of such procedures.

And Dragon ..Yes! I did read that .

A woman in my gym (mid 50's) had hers replaced , where they go take a biopsy and grow you a new one from your one cells.

after the final replacement she was back playing tennis 6 weeks later , said that it feels better now that it did 15yrs ago
